Helping a student understand their content and what they're struggling with and helping them through that content making sure that it becomes a non issue. I believe tutors are there to aid students in gaining a better understanding of their content and properly engaging with that content, and not just about cramming the school syllabus in a few…

The traditional school provides a teaching method for the general student, however, tutoring allows for students' specific needs to be met, whether they're not being challenged enough at school or require additional assistance. Curating lesson plans that target areas of improvement and application through constant revision is pivotal to any…

Is to provide support, as I student I know it gets hard to understand what teachers are trying to say. A tutor is meant to simplify what is being taught in class and helping out the student to be prepared for their future adventures in an academic level. I am a talkative and hardworking person. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate a student when they feel demotivated by making them feel confident in their skills and knowledge. It's important for the tutor to provide full support and guidance in an individualised manner to tailor to their specific needs. It's also important for the tutor to communicate…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give him the confidence that he or she can achieve their goals. Every child or student has different levels of understanding, and it's a teacher's job to understand that level and start teaching from there and gradually motivating them to work harder. Patience Using innovative ideas to…

Some of the most important things are to help build confidence in your student - it can often be challenging to do well if you don't have that confidence. A tutor can also provide useful advice and feedback as to the flaws of a student in a particular subject to help them work on it. A tutor also gives an additional and refreshing insight into a…

I think the support a tutor should have for their student should not only be academic in nature– but rather, I believe the student's leadership qualities and extracurricular potential should be a focus for any tutor. I believe my speaking to my students on how to live healthy, balanced lives can support them in becoming multi-talented students…

I believe that all providers of education should not only prepare a student for an exam, but to open the student's eyes to the wider world, where they can explore their passions. In this way, I consider confidence an important aspect that a tutor can provide to a student. School can sometimes feel so impossible, when sitting in a large classroom…

Likewise, a tutor should always work to teach lifelong problem-solving and learning skills while giving students the tools and encouragement to use these skills to excel in their learning. It is important that tutors not only foster improvement but also a passion for the subject being taught. As such, I believe that tutoring should be an enjoyable and enriching experience. It is also important that the tutor examines the tutee's strengths and weaknesses and acts accordingly. An awareness that every student is different allows…

Inside BardiaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Rohan focused on understanding electron configuration and the differences between ions and isotopes, as well as revising key concepts like homeostasis and the nervous system through practice exam questions.

For Year 9, Mason worked on operations with fractions—including addition, subtraction, and multiplication—alongside converting improper fractions to mixed numerals using the cross method.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Aleigha practised vertical multiplication and tackled word problems involving addition, subtraction, and multiplication algorithms to strengthen her calculation skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student preparing for exams struggled to consistently update and review summary notes, which left him feeling "pressured or behind in his exam preparation."

In senior maths, a student found it challenging to recognise when to apply the correct trigonometric formula in worded questions, often missing connections because she hadn't revised past topics or broken down information systematically.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student forgot to complete assigned homework and lost track of concepts previously taught—when asked about multiplication abbreviations, he kept glancing at notes for reassurance despite understanding. These habits led to confusion and interrupted progress mid-lesson.

Recent Achievements

One Bardia tutor noticed a big shift in Rohan, a high school student who used to hesitate with scientific concepts—he's now actively asking questions during lessons and even keeps a summary document open to track what he needs to review.

In chemistry, after struggling with electron transfer diagrams at first, he can now draw and explain them independently.

Another secondary student, Khloe, initially froze when faced with new algebra problems but has started working through solutions out loud until she finds the answer.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student surprised his tutor by reading clock times without prompting or hesitation for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Darren is very patient and kindly spoken and Julia is really enjoying her tutoring experience with him.

Melissa was wonderful & we look forward to seeing her again in a fortnight. She was so patient, encouraging, gentle & knowledgeable. Grace felt so special & clever afterwards she can't want to see her again.

We think Ingrid is fantastic.  She and Elizabeth have a wonderful rapport and we can already see improvements in Elizabeth's work.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glenquarie Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bardia Public School.
