Help the student progress, a tutor shouldn't be a nanny but rather a coach. A tutor should be someone who shows the horse where the water sources, which is/are the best one(s) and how to best drink from them rather than someone who takes a horse to a water source and makes that horse drink from it. I think that I can explain well and am…

The most important things that a tutor can do for a student is being able to answer any question a student throws at them. A student in high school/primary school will be extremely curious and self-driven, which is exactly why being able to answer any type of question, whether it be homework, school or even life advice, is extremely important as a…

I used to struggle with maths in the early years of high school, so I can understand and relate to students going through similar challenges and have…

Helping them study for themselves. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them develop their own passions and goals for studying and learning, that way it helps build healthy habits and achieves far better results in my experience than rote learning a,d teaching them memorisation. I'm good at explaining abstract…

I think the most important things for a tutor to do is to make sure the student understands how to do the question, and not just give them the answer or formula. It is essential for them to utilise all the skills and I want to foster the ability to identify which methods are required for each question. I like to teach in fun ways so hopefully that…

Motivate them to study. A lot of the times the students are more than capable to achieve good grades but they just struggle with motivation to study, hence the first thing i do is motivate them to study. A tutor\'s first duty must be to create a comfortable environment for the student to learn. This means serving as a friend, and as someone who is receptive and understanding to the needs of the student. It is through this that students will grow and be most efficient in their studies. An open environment, a student should not feel embaressed when asking questions or having a problem with their school work. This can be a problem sometimes in a classroom environment as some children may riddicule the child. This open environment is important for a tutor as the student should feel open to ask questions without peer judgement. A…

A few of the important things a tutor can do for a student is to care, understand and support. Although a tutor may have an incredible breadth of knowledge, it is the way that they deliver this knowledge that is key. Firstly, they need to care and understand the student's level and ability to learn and process information. As much as delivering…

The tutor chosen for my daughter connected with her at the first lesson and has made the idea of being tutored a positive experience. Which I very grateful for. I gave you 1 star less as I had difficulty in trying to pay for one of the prepaid packages.

Inside BeecroftTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Hamish worked on classifying numbers, as well as converting decimals to fractions and identifying multiples and factors.

For Year 10, Ella focused on measurement questions involving absolute and percentage error, then moved to linear graphs—finding gradients and y-intercepts using examples from her textbook.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Arish tackled challenging complex number problems alongside some proof questions set by his school teacher.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student was observed "cramming all homework into one sitting," resulting in rushed responses and gaps when tackling advanced topics like polynomials and logarithms. This left little room for meaningful revision or feedback use before lessons.

In Year 10, a student repeatedly relied on the formula sheet for trigonometry instead of memorising key relationships—"he kept checking the sheet each time rather than recalling the rule."

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner skipped reading full word problems, leading to frequent misinterpretation: answers often missed key details from later sentences. This tendency undermined their confidence when faced with multi-step questions in class.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Beecroft recently noted a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with exam techniques now independently pinpoints her weaker areas and applies new strategies to tackle them.

In Year 8 maths, one student who often guessed when stuck has started pausing to ask clarifying questions instead, showing real initiative and less reliance on luck.

Meanwhile, a younger student who struggled with measuring lines using a ruler was initially apprehensive but, after some hands-on practice, now confidently measures and compares lengths without prompting. Last session, he completed all his line measurement tasks smoothly on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Pennant Hills Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beecroft Public School.
