I consider this to be the ability to adapt to a students needs and learning ability. Certain students may not understand concepts from the same method as everyone else. It's important to cater to each student and understand what their best form of learning is. To do this different styles of teaching can be implemented to see which ones each…

A tutor should be someone who doesn't just blabber information, but a person who ensures they deliver knowledge in a way a student can comprehend easily! But most importantly, the tutor should always make sure the student has understood the concept, always! Being able to adjust your teaching services to cater all types of students, with different…

I think the most important thing is that students are able to recall information because they actually understand what they are being taught and not memorizing concepts just for the sake of it. By doing this, they will automatically improve and maintain good grades. I think my strength is being a student where I can understand the struggles that…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to provide clarity, build confidence, and encourage independent thinking. First, a tutor should break down complex topics into simpler terms, making them easier to understand. Second, they should help students build confidence in their abilities by offering positive reinforcement…

Tutoring for me isn't just giving the student content that they need to learn in their subject, but to be a role model that they can look towards. My tutoring would not only help them in school but hopefully in their lives as well. I don't want to just be another random person in their lives but to nurture them so that one day they look back and…

A tutor is someone who encourages the students to get best of them. Moreover, tutor is also responsible for creating moral values in students as many students see their teachers as their ideal or mentor. I don't see teaching just as a formality. As a tutor, the most integral thing for a student to succeed is their interest in studying. Unless a student does not want to learn and succeed, they cannot achieve this, so it is important for tutors to inspire and encourage students during sessions. Explaining concepts to students, listening to students, and making classes fun through enthusiasm…

Improving the confidence of the student is key. The student should evolve to have more trust in themselves and their abilities and be able to apply this. First and foremost, the tutor needs to help the student fully understand all the core concepts. Comprehending the underlying logic and reasoning in mathematical concepts, and the skill to be able to apply these to problems, are necessary for success in mathematics. After that comes exam or test-specific advice: what working markers expect, how to…

Provide motivation and help develop a passion (or at least an appreciation) for Mathematics. Success would be more likely if the student is enjoying the subject matter. Without a doubt, I believe it is essential for a tutor to nurture and grow self-belief within their students beyond anything else. Self-belief is perhaps the most pivotal factor in deciding academic success as well as personal success, and thus I see it as an important quality for a tutor to develop . Whilst a tutor should also be avaliable,…

Inside Belgrave HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on building speed and confidence with times tables and practiced using coordinates, directions, and map scales.

Year 10 student Vien developed arguments for a practice essay and worked on proofreading homework in preparation for an upcoming SAC.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Isaac explored scene analysis from *The Princess Bride* in English and strengthened his skills interpreting political cartoons for argument analysis.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, a student hesitated to generate unique examples for essays, tending to latch onto the first idea rather than exploring a wider range—"responding to each question in an original and critical way" was a challenge noted by the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student often left writing assignments unfinished or only partially developed, especially conclusions.

In maths (Year 8), one student skipped regular practice at home and struggled to recall methods during lessons; this meant lesson time was spent re-learning instead of moving forward.

For Year 5, untidy handwriting made it hard for teachers to follow his reasoning during comprehension tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Belgrave Heights tutor noticed one high school student started proofreading their own essays for the first time, picking up on unclear paragraphs after previously submitting drafts without checking.

Another secondary student who used to hesitate with complex maths questions now works through new algebra problems independently by the end of each session, only asking for help when truly stuck.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once rushed through spelling tasks is now taking extra time to reread and correct errors, finishing her weekly exercises with noticeably fewer mistakes than before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belgrave Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Belgrave South Primary School.
