A tutor should understand a student's struggle and achievements, and be able to bring out the fun in studying to help them in their academic struggles. I encourage and motivate students to excel and set a foundation for future studies, as well as providing an entertaining and educational environment suitable for each student. As a current student…

A tutor can first start by welcoming their student and getting to know them in order to make them feel comfortable and relaxed. This will make it easier for the tutor to better understand the student, but also easier for the student to freely ask questions. As well as holding the ability to teach, an english tutor must have patience. Being a…

The most important thing as an english tutor, in my opinion, isn't to make them get good grades or to achieve high scores, but make them feel like they are improving everyday and making them feel a sense of accomplishment when they feel like they’ve truly learnt and understood something. I hope to make sure they are able to truly enjoy learning…

I believe that the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to understand them. Many kids struggle at school and with their parents , be it academically or otherwise, this could be due to a number of reasons. However, from my personal experience I have found it to be the lack to communication between the child and the adults…

I find it important for students to know and feel that their individual needs are heard, understood and attended to. It would be most important to follow through all plans, tailored to their needs, with actions that allow the students to realise their progress. By also validating their strengths and identifying their self-limiting beliefs, I…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to support them, encourage them and listen to them. Instilling fear in students and shaming them for not knowing a concept or for not understanding something is unacceptable. A tutor needs to be someone that makes their students confident and builds them up as they receive enough…

In my perspective, I acknowledge the importance of establishing a sense of comfort between an english tutor and a student. If this is established, the student will feel more comfortable asking questions and tend to open up more about themselves; whether it be about the marks they are getting that need improvement or whether they're having a rough…

A tutor is someone who encourages the students to get best of them. Improving the confidence of the student is key. The student should evolve to have more trust in themselves and their abilities and be able to apply this. Without a doubt, I believe it is essential for an english tutor to nurture and grow self-belief within their students beyond anything else. Self-belief is perhaps the most pivotal factor in deciding academic success as well as personal success, and thus I see it as an important quality for a tutor to develop . Whilst a tutor should also be…

Inside Belgrave HeightsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on building speed and confidence with times tables and practiced using coordinates, directions, and map scales.

Year 10 student Vien developed arguments for a practice essay and worked on proofreading homework in preparation for an upcoming SAC.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Isaac explored scene analysis from *The Princess Bride* in English and strengthened his skills interpreting political cartoons for argument analysis.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, a student hesitated to generate unique examples for essays, tending to latch onto the first idea rather than exploring a wider range—"responding to each question in an original and critical way" was a challenge noted by the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student often left writing assignments unfinished or only partially developed, especially conclusions.

In maths (Year 8), one student skipped regular practice at home and struggled to recall methods during lessons; this meant lesson time was spent re-learning instead of moving forward.

For Year 5, untidy handwriting made it hard for teachers to follow his reasoning during comprehension tasks.

Recent Achievements

A Belgrave Heights tutor noticed one high school student started proofreading their own essays for the first time, picking up on unclear paragraphs after previously submitting drafts without checking.

Another secondary student who used to hesitate with complex maths questions now works through new algebra problems independently by the end of each session, only asking for help when truly stuck.

Meanwhile, a younger student who once rushed through spelling tasks is now taking extra time to reread and correct errors, finishing her weekly exercises with noticeably fewer mistakes than before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

All good! Boys very happy with Josh. He has certainly helped their confidence and that is the start to better marks.

Yes Daisy is a good tutor and seems to work great with the younger children.  I was very happy with her for David.

I've not actually met Tevita myself but both Ashleigh and my husband Adam have nothing but good things to say about him.  Ashleigh is very happy with his tutoring so far and seems to have a better understanding of the maths subjects she is doing.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Belgrave Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Belgrave South Primary School.
