The most important thing tutors can do for a student is to just be there for the student and give their students the motivation and encouragement to work, having a tutor myself those were the things that assisted me in achieving my scores. This kind of motivation and encouragement can then build into other parts of the student's life thus…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, tailor their approach to meet individual needs, and provide consistent encouragement. Helping students feel confident in their abilities creates a strong foundation for learning, as they are more likely to engage actively and tackle challenges head-on.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is give students the right direction and support so they can build confidence and excel on their own. One of my biggest strengths as a tutor is that I’m always willing to learn. If there’s something I’m not fully confident about, I make time to understand it properly—because I believe I can…

I think I huge part of it is often confidence. I have found most students already understand and are able to do the work however they don’t have the confidence to back themselves. In my approach- I want to guide them by building their confidence and helping them step by step through all weaker areas of their academics. I think I am patient…

Firstly, a tutor has to be able to understand the student's needs and then personalise a learning plan/ style that works for the student - one size does not fit all! Secondly, the tutor needs to guide the student not get them to parrot generic question answers. It's about building the students confidence up, through positive encouragement, and…

It is most important to provide a comfortable space for students to make errors and learn, while also providing the motivation and space for studying to be completed. That is easy. The most important thing is to inspire them and engage their curiosity. To be more interesting than a teacher trying to teach a class, and to show the student /s that learning is beneficial, fun, and not-dreary schoolwork. Gamification can be used here, and exposing the student to new texts above the level they are used to, so as to…

To listen and make the learning experience enjoyable. The best way to learn is to do it in a way that does not stress you out, make it easy to understand. From my years of soccer coaching experience, where I worked to improve the skills of a dozen different players of different levels, I learned that every student learns best in their own way and that is why tutoring is so important. In the classroom, everyone receives the same treatment and it is bound to be ineffective for many people. Thus, the…

Inside BellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ethan worked on converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and representing fractions on a number line, using diagrams for visual understanding.

Year 8 student Olivia focused on indices—practising both positive and negative indices—and revisited measurement concepts including perimeter of circles.

For Year 10, Jacob tackled linear equations and trigonometry basics such as identifying sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right-angled triangles.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly guessed answers in maths rather than working them out on paper, with one tutor noting, "He got up several times to play basketball during class."

In Year 10, forgetting to bring textbooks and materials made it difficult to review past challenges—"She needed to bring her maths books so I could see what she had struggled with this week."

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student ran out of time on an exam, missing simple errors due to poor planning. These habits led to lost marks and missed opportunities for targeted feedback in each session.

Recent Achievements

A Bellfield tutor noticed Ollie, a Year 10 student, recently made fewer mistakes on area and perimeter problems by slowing down and using the standard formula they created together—he used to rush through and miss key steps.

In another session, Kiera (Year 11) moved from relying on hints to working through challenging English essay planning almost entirely independently, making her own quote lists for the first time.

Meanwhile, Felix in primary school finally started applying punctuation correctly in his writing without reminders after weeks of forgetting full stops.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ivanhoe Library & Cultural Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Pius X School.
