A tutor should be able to instill skills that will serve the students so well, both in academics and in life that they will no longer require help from us. I am very patient and non-judgemental when it comes to tutoring. I always try to put myself in my student's shoes, observe and try to cater to their needs, while making sure the quality of the…

Ultimately, I think a good tutor teaches the student skills that they can utilize in their general learning and subject specific study. A tutor should be in a position to be a mentor to the student and share their experience in relation to studying their subject. This can help the student overcome what can initially be a daunting task as it is a…

A tutor is a guide to show the right path. Students might stumble a lot, but tutor should hold him up, stand by him and show the right direction. Never giving up on a student, looking for opportunities to advance their skill is what a tutor should always do. I try to explain things from the student's perspective. For example, a gamer might…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ignite a student's curiosity and passion for learning. When a student finds joy in the process, success naturally follows. All students are different, and they have different needs. Providing the right support is crucial in my opinion. Understanding where exactly the student needs help, and…

They help pupils become more self-assured, make studying interesting, and foster an environment where they feel free to ask questions. In order to guarantee that students…

I think that taking the time to really understand the student's needs and being able to break down the problem into its smallest components really helps to understand exactly where the student is going wrong, and how to help them. Once I understand where the student is struggling, I can focus on practicing that concept until they are comfortable…

Inside BirchgroveTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Josh reviewed coordinate geometry skills such as finding gradients and intercepts, then tackled financial maths with a focus on taxable income calculations.

Year 9 student Charlotte concentrated on applying the sine and cosine rules for triangles, and also practiced interpreting data using stem-and-leaf graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 6 student Malissa worked on volume and area of shapes in maths, alongside creative writing tasks based on artworks to build descriptive language skills.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 English, one student's essays lacked clear topic sentences and overused description rather than analysis—"structure needs a bit of work," as noted by the tutor.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student repeatedly forgot test dates and upcoming maths assessment topics, making targeted revision impossible; she was unsure what would be covered next week.

In senior maths (Year 11), another struggled to recall key formulas during exams despite strong conceptual understanding in lessons, leading to avoidable mistakes under pressure. The result: lost marks on familiar material and a sense of frustration after seeing errors that could have been caught with better organization or preparation.

Recent Achievements

One Birchgrove tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously relying heavily on hints, worked through almost all her trigonometry and coordinate geometry questions independently—only making minor mistakes, which she could correct herself when prompted.

In Year 8, a student who used to avoid asking questions started actively seeking clarification during graphing lessons, helping him grasp concepts much faster than before.

Meanwhile, a younger student finally tackled Highest Common Factors confidently in maths after weeks of hesitation, even applying the method to new problems without waiting for step-by-step guidance.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I wanted to send a quick note to advise how impressed I was with the young man who visited our home to commence tutoring my son Samuel last week, Darius.  He was absolutely delightful and both Sam and I are looking forward to improving Sam's math with Darius' assistance and support this year.  Although it was our initial meeting with Darius I feel that he will be an excellent role model for my son moving forward.

Ezy Math Tutoring was an excellent service for my daughter who had been finding maths hard.   It provides one on one tuition at the home of the student and the tutors tailor the work directly to the needs of that student.    I recommend Ezy Math Tutoring as it is well organised,  efficient and highly convenient.    Our tutor was very patient and helpful and our daughter's maths grades improved.  In addition, we received progress reports, and information regarding further maths resources.

Ally seems to have settled in very well with Ben and enjoys learning with him. She finds that he is easy to understand and explains mathematical concepts well.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Balmain Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Birchgrove Public School.
