The best thing which a maths tutor can do is to help students solve the difficulties which they are facing in their studies in such a way that rather than directly giving solutions to them, tutor can help in understanding the problem and concepts behind it. I am very patient and I focus on core subjects so students can solve any kind of problem…

The most important thing a maths tutor can do is make sure the student clearly understands the theory and understands the applications. This is because, students will be tested on their knowledge with complex unfamiliar questions where a more nuanced approach would be required. My experience in the QCAA syllabus and helping my classmates learn the…

The best thing a maths tutor can do for a student is it reduce the fear of studying/learning a subject. Mathematics is a tough subject and it is important tutors take the right approach when they teach that subject. I am a huge believer in teachers being friends with their students. My biggest strength is that I get along with students and try and…

You can only do so much as a maths tutor, the most important change you can make is a behavioural change. I believe giving the student confidence is so important as no matter how well you teach them if they believe they can't do it they won't succeed. I always try to start my students off with more basic questions to give them that bit of confidence before working with them to solve the more complex questions. I'm known for being a happy and…

A tutor's most important role is to listen, observe, and provide students with the necessary tools and strategies to learn effectively. By doing so, tutors can help students overcome academic challenges, develop lifelong learning skills, and foster a cycle of confidence, motivation, and success. One of the most important things a maths tutor can do for a student would be helping the student gain confidence in the area in which they are struggling. A tutor can do this through adjusting teaching methods for the most benefit of the student, helping them but not doing it for them and also providing encouragement and support. I have a lot of…

A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a maths tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a…

Helping them complete their work is part of the job. However, the most important thing is making sure students are relaxed. If they are getting overwhelmed they shouldn't be pushed because then it'll make them feel like they can't do it. So tackling their weaknesses at a realistic pace will help them not feel pressured to understand straight away.…

Easy to organise a tutor, and the tutor we got is so great with my 9 year old. Patient and very knowledgeable, and most importantly is really helping my daughter catch up and feel more confident with maths. Thank you!

Inside BoondallTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 11 student Georgia focused on creative writing for an English assignment and prepared for upcoming Shakespeare assessments.

Year 12 student Olivia practised drawing ray diagrams and applied formulas for period, frequency, and wavelength in Physics.

Meanwhile, another Year 12, Noah, reviewed concepts of black body radiation and the double-slit experiment to deepen understanding of quantum phenomena.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived with almost no school resources, making it hard to build on recent classwork; as a tutor noted, "had she gathered all her resources, the lesson would've been smoother."

In Year 12 Physics, one student repeatedly forgot to bring a charged computer, which meant lost time accessing materials and completing tasks.

For a Year 6 maths learner, reluctance to write out working led to confusion when mistakes occurred—reminders helped her see where things went wrong.

Meanwhile, in Year 8 science, distraction from upcoming assessments made it difficult to stay focused on current tasks.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Boondall recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to avoid asking for help now regularly prepares thoughtful questions before each session, showing a real shift toward independent learning.

In Year 9 maths, one student began using her formula sheet unprompted and checked her working without reminders—a big change from needing constant reassurance last term.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who often hesitated on multiplication tests managed to complete all problems solo this week, even when feeling unwell. She finished every question accurately and didn't give up halfway through the task.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandgate Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Boondall State School.
