I believe giving the student confidence is so important as no matter how well you teach them if they believe they can't do it they won't succeed. I always try to start my students off with more basic questions to give them that bit of confidence before working with them to solve the more complex questions. I'm known for being a happy and…

As a tutor, I believe that it is important to be patient with students and allow them to grasp the concept on their own, albeit with a firm guiding hand, as I find that this allows the pupil to adopt a more proactive and self-sufficient mindset. My experience with this method often found a great deal of pride and accomplishment within both the…

Give them confidence- either to have a crack at new questions or topics, or just continue to work and learn independently. Usually this is achieved by helping students find a way to enjoy the subject. I'm a good communicator and very empathetic. Local Reviews

Jane is great. She is easy to talk to and seems very keen to help Tanner. Tanner also likes her and he already seems to have learnt things from her and is remembering it. While kids generally don't like any form of school work, Tanner seems to enjoy being tutored by Jane. She makes things fun for him.
Jodie, Bracken Ridge

Inside Bracken RidgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Hugo focused on subtraction with borrowing the ten and matched, named, and ordered basic fractions to build understanding of size; he also recapped time.

Year 8 Ruby practiced solving algebraic equations and factorising expressions, then worked through ratio problems for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 Aidan concentrated on applying Pythagoras' Theorem to problem-solving questions and finding missing lengths using scale factors in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 algebra, a student avoided showing working steps—"he skipped showing steps in equations, which hid sign errors"—making it harder to spot and correct small mistakes.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 learner revising trigonometry relied heavily on calculator shortcuts for routine questions, missing chances to strengthen mental recall of ratios and angle rules.

At the senior level, one student faced test planning issues in calculus: time spent reworking earlier answers meant rushing through the final question without checking logic or units.

During primary lessons on subtraction with borrowing, some written work was messy and difficult to follow when carrying tens across columns.

Recent Achievements

One Bracken Ridge tutor saw a Year 11 student who previously hesitated with trigonometry finally tackle mensuration problems independently, applying the right formulas without prompting.

In a recent high school session, another student who used to get stuck on boxplots not only constructed them correctly but started explaining their reasoning out loud while working through data sets.

Meanwhile, in primary maths, Hugo—who often waited for hints—chose to attempt trickier division questions on his own and wrote out all his working without being asked.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thank you for your email. Ben and David are working well together and it appears that the working relationship is positive. Interestingly, Ben has instantly been able to move to working with David as both David and Ben have in common the same secondary school that Ben is currently going to. So while David attended the school some years prior to Ben, and much has change, they were still able to compare experiences about the school which helped start them working constructively. We are very satisfied with continuing with David.

Yes so far we are happy with Emma. The reason we want the tutoring is that I would like Stephanie to be extended in a similar way to that which coaching colleges follow ie they seem to follow the curriculum of selective schools. I would like Stephanie to have the same opportunity to be extended. Since the coaching colleges are inconvenient for us, we much prefer to have a tutor like Emma.

Tanay enjoys learning with Curtis which is a great thing so I am sure he will listen to what Curtis has to tell him.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bracken Ridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Joseph's Catholic Primary School.
