Based on my experience, adopting a step-by-step approach that emphasizes understanding is the most effective way to teach concepts. Additionally, providing students with well-prepared notes and practice exercises is incredibly beneficial for their learning. I am patient with students because I understand that every student learns at their own pace…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen, and to be a pillar of support they can lean on not only in their academics, but also in their personal lives. High school can be a really stressful period for students, not only in the immense pressure that students are under but also with the dramatic shifts their minds…

To help them build interest in a subject. Teaching to one's strengths and minimizing their weaknesses. Having effective communication with the student for success. I am very patient so I would explain the same concept again and again until they understand it. I am creative and enthusiastic about teaching so I would tutor each individual kid in a…

I believe the most important role of a tutor is to ensure that the student truly understands the concepts they are learning. While it's important to make tutoring sessions engaging and interactive, the ultimate goal is for the student to leave each session with a clearer understanding that supports their academic progress. To achieve this, it's…

I think the most important aspect as a tutor is to listen to the student and foster independence. They should be able to ask as many questions as possible and make them think and learn about problem solving. I think there are a lot of qualities that go into being a good tutor. A few of the most important skills for the field are patience and…

The most important area that a tutor can provide a student is to make sure they are in a comfortable and non-judgmental environment. I believe this is the first step in helping those that are not too keen in school or homework. After providing a friendly setting, this would lay the foundation that would help enable the student to develop a…

In my opinion, a tutor is able to change the perspective of a student towards a particular subject completely. It is true that in the end, it's the student's effort that makes them perform well but on the other hand, a tutor can make the student put in the effort, and make the student enjoy what he is studying. I know that I can get through to…

I believe the most important thing is understanding a student, and to be in their shoes when tutoring them. I believe that it allows tutors to really gauge students into learning more efficiently. The most important thing a tutor can do is be patient and cheer on their student, allowing the student to maintain their self esteem even when they are having trouble. My strengths are my patience, dedication, and being able to reframe how I teach something. For example, I may use the student's personal interests to explain a concept and make it…

I believe that the most important responsibility of a tutor is to inspire curiosity and passion for study among students. Also, tutors should create an environment where students feel…

I acknowledge that passing on knowledge such as how to use Pythagoras is important, I would love to inspire students to love learning and being creative in the way that approaches a math issue. Inside Brandon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Daniel practised solving linear equations and finding the gradient and y-intercept of lines, including working through examples using coordinate points.

In Year 10, Jessica focused on quadratic equations—completing the square and transforming quadratics into different forms—as well as transformations of functions from the Methods course.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Liam tackled rates and algebraic fractions from the Specialist Mathematics syllabus, along with further practice on function transformations to support his advanced studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student tackling quadratics hesitated to show written steps, even when not strictly required; as one tutor observed, "writing out logic helps avoid repeated sign errors," but the urge for neatness led to gaps in working.

In a Year 9 session on conditional probability, a reliance on the CAS calculator without careful input checking caused confusion—incorrect answers went unnoticed until rework was needed.

Meanwhile, a primary student repeatedly left homework incomplete in fractions and times tables, which made later sessions less confident and slowed skill growth. The missing practice showed up during live questions: pauses, doubt, erasing instead of reasoning.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Brandon Park noticed Maddison, a Year 10 student, now sketches clear diagrams to break down challenging linear relation problems—something she previously hesitated to do.

Jack, in Year 11, recently tackled transformations of graphs with far less prompting than before and worked through complex equations independently.

In primary sessions, Olivia has started placing her numbers correctly when multiplying large values; just last week, she confidently completed long multiplication without mixing up digit placement—a big shift from her earlier confusion.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glen Waverley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Glen Waverley South Primary School.
