I believe that a tutor should understand that students have different ways of the studying that actually help them in their studies, and they should be able to adapt and prepare new ways of teaching that is most valuable to students. A tutor should be motivating but disciplinary to students, to ensure they maintain a good mindset towards their…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a positive attitude towards learning. By creating a supportive and encouraging environment, tutors can help students overcome their fears and self-doubt, which is often the biggest barrier to their success. This involves not only teaching the…

By my little experience, i think that tutoring is not only directing the children to a specific point but opening their mind to a broader level by keeping into mind the child's interests. Listening to the child, helping them to use their imagination freely and cope-up with difficult questions easily. Also, students can ask me questions freely if…

A tutor should focus on empowering the student, rather than simply teaching the content to them, so that when the tutor is not present, the student is still able to motivate themselves and have confidence in their ability without having someone to rely on. In my high school days, i went to alot of tutors and i learned the difference between a good and a bad tutor. Bad tutors i believe stay within the box, afraid to go out and expose the students true potential. A good tutor can not only help the student keep on track of school work and assist in any difficulties the student may have, but also push…

For a student, the most essential thing a tutor can do is imparting complete knowledge as half knowledge is dangerous. So, when a child is fully aware of something, he can be confident enough to explore more beyond his imagination. A tutor must be resilient enough to teach students in the best way. The strength of a tutor lies in his knowledge and…

Treat each student as an individual person. The same methods of tutoring might not apply on the other. Moreover patience is necessary. Tutors should maintain a pace comfortable for the student. Tutors should be humble enough to admit if they don't know few answers and should be able to research and provide the answers to the student. I learn…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. Michael has made a huge difference already, and we are very happy with his work so far. Mia is listening to him and there is some great mutual respect happening. I love that when mia doesn't know something he ensures to not make her feel silly. It has helped her confidence Immensely.

Inside BraybrookTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Chelsea focused on surds and the first five laws of indices, then practised Pythagoras' Theorem for both finding hypotenuse and shorter sides, using diagrams to reinforce understanding.

For Year 9, Ruby tackled negative indices and exponential equations before moving into graphs of exponential growth and decay.

Meanwhile, primary student Ethan (Grade 5) completed NAPLAN numeracy practice, including dot plots and multi-step worded questions to build confidence with data displays and problem-solving.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, one student often avoided writing out working when solving linear equations, saying "I can do this in my head," which led to missed sign errors and confusion during revision.

In a senior class, a Year 11 found herself relying heavily on her calculator for trigonometry but struggled on non-calculator tests—she wasn't confident with manual division or recalling times tables.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner left homework incomplete after a busy week; gaps in fraction skills persisted into lessons. Each instance left the student frustrated, searching for answers that could have been clearer with stronger habits.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Braybrook noticed that Chelsea, a Year 10 student, has gone from struggling with surds to confidently simplifying them and now independently applies trigonometric ratios to complex worded problems—a big leap from earlier sessions where she hesitated with multi-step processes.

Sasha, also in high school, recently started sketching parabolas by completing the square without prompts and tackled all questions on her test, even when unsure—showing new initiative compared to her previous reluctance.

Meanwhile, Camilla in Year 5 has begun creating dot plots herself and now explains her answers out loud after previously staying quiet during problem-solving.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brimbank Libraries—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caroline Chisholm Catholic College.
