The most important consideration a tutor can do for a student is being able to motivate their students, which allows them to learn with more passion, thus allows them to enjoy doing extra work. A tutor must be able to be confident in what they are teaching which allows the student to gain more in depth knowledge. I am good at working at a pace…

There are few important things a tutor can do their students: -Transfer their extensive knowledge onto their students so they can solve their academic problems. - Be patient and calm, even if they have to repeat something 100 times, they have to make sure that the student is clear about the problem. -Build relationships so that student…

One of the most important things a tutor can do is to build a strong rapport with the student, creating a trusting and supportive environment. This helps the student feel comfortable asking questions and expressing difficulties. Additionally, a tutor should tailor their approach to address the student's individual learning needs and challenges.…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be able to understand their needs and feelings towards their studies. The same approach does not work for all students, so it is important to adapt to to each individuals needs in order to give them the best teaching possible, and inspire confidence in themselves. I think my best…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is allowing them to learn at their own pace/way without pressuring them but at the same time making the progress that they need in order to become the student they must be. Im very calm and patient. I always try my best to make the student comfortable and understand their…

I realised that the real challenge often isn't the students' abilities but their engagement with the content. My goal as a tutor is to approach material proactively, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to ask 'why?' and 'how?' instead of passively accepting information at face value. I believe in creating an environment where students feel…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to create a supportive environment, encourage curiosity, and build the student’s confidence in their own abilities. A tutor should not just provide answers, but also guide the student in developing problem-solving skills and independent thinking, so they can succeed beyond the tutoring…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is collaboration. Being able to communicate, preparing early on and mapping out what the students require is essential to being a good tutor. I think my strength as a tutor would be due to my experience of doing the HSC and due to my flexibility as a student in the University of Sydney,…

I consider the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to encourage and empower them. I believe most students can learn most subjects/tasks but it's just about finding the way of learning that works for them. I am positive and encouraging. A tutor or at least a teacher is someone who can give students a helping hand, perhaps a friend is too informal but someone they can relate to. I think being able to understand your student and what makes them improve or how they can improve is also essential as a tutor and a teacher. It is useless to spoon feed facts and knowledge to a student if…

A tutor is someone that a student can rely on for support. They are pragmatic in finding ways to ensure the student has a positive experience with learning. The student is in control, and the tutor is a guide that assists and also facilitates the student to take safe risks, ask questions and completely engage with their learning in ways suitable…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is highlight their strengths as a learner. For me, the most important thing a tutor can do is help the student feel more confident — not just with the subject, but in themselves. I think we sometimes forget how big of a difference it makes when someone believes they can actually do it. I really try to celebrate the small wins — whether they’ve just understood a tough concept or even…

I think it goes without saying that a tutor should help their student/s to understand concepts so that the student can improve on their grades. But I believe that tutoring goes so much further beyond that. A tutor should strive to truly engage the student in their learning. A good tutor will motivate and inspire the student so that they are…

Inside Brighton-le-SandsTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10: Jeyda worked through simultaneous equations and trigonometric ratios, including using sine and cosine rules for problem solving.

Year 11: Jay focused on quadratic equations by factorising and applying the quadratic formula, then practiced advanced statistics with box plots and grouped frequency tables.

Year 12: Anna reviewed HSC exam questions covering probability (including Venn diagrams and conditional probability) as well as interpreting complex data sets using histograms and measures of spread like standard deviation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Mathematics, a student often avoided transferring concepts to the calculator correctly, which led to repeated errors in exam-style questions—"needs more practice on transferring math concepts to the calculator," one tutor noted.

Another Year 12 student hesitated when faced with lengthy worded problems, sometimes losing track of her systematic approach mid-solution.

Homework completion was also inconsistent in Year 10: "I will understand her problems a lot better when I see her completed work."

In Year 7, frustration with mistakes meant that if an answer wasn't known immediately, effort would drop and tasks were left unfinished.

Recent Achievements

A Brighton Le Sands tutor recently noticed a big shift with one high school student who, after often feeling lost in wordy exam questions, is now pausing to break down each question and think critically before answering—she even tackled several tricky probability problems on her own last session.

Another secondary student completed an entire practice exam within the allotted time for the first time, focusing deliberately on high-mark questions rather than rushing.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner who used to quietly guess now regularly speaks up to ask for help when stuck and double-checks her answers before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Brighton-Le-Sands Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Thomas More's Catholic Primary School Brighton Le Sands.
