I think the most important thing a tutor can offer to a younger student is their experience, similar to that of a mentor. Beyond course content, tutors can draw from their study, career and life experiences to help the student navigate their path. I am proud of my ability to teach and explain concepts to others effectively and thoroughly, which I…

A tutors primary task is to help the student with what they want to be helped with, and as a part of that accommodating to their individual needs and goals. Doing anything else would simply be disingenuous. It is worth noting further that accommodating to the student's needs in any way reasonable is quite close to the most important thing a tutor…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to encourage them to ask lots of questions, and be a mentor on top of being a tutor. I'm meticulous in my teaching approach, being an advocate for deeper understanding of topics. I always explain concepts step by step (derivations and proofs where necessary), and make sure that students…

The most important thing would be to create a safe space for students, so they will feel welcomed and understood. This can build their confidence as well. Once they feel safe, the students can ask any question and tutor can help them and fill their knowledge gap. My strength would be perseverance, adaptability, and emphaty. I would try and give…

Having had many tutors at university, I've come to realise that a good tutor doesn't simply regurgitate answers from a list of questions. Rather I believe that a tutor has the responsibility of reinforcing what has been taught in class, summarising content and practising with the students. Some important things a tutor can do in addition is…

The most important things I can do for a student are to provide clear guidance, foster a supportive learning environment, and encourage independent thinking. First, I believe in breaking down complex topics into digestible, step-by-step explanations, ensuring that students fully grasp the material before moving on. My role is not just to help them…

A tutor helps the student understand the subject matter in detail and at ease. He/she breaks the complex problem which require analytical skills to simpler arithmetic problems a student can work on. This in turn builds confidence in the student who in turn can easily interpret exam-setting questions as well as real life logic with ease. I like to…

The most important quality a tutor must have along with the ability to teach clearly is having the patience to listen to their students' doubts. I think having confidence in their thought process. Some children know the concept but don't have the confidence in their skills to apply it because they are scared of getting it wrong. When gradually over a couple of months you change that, that to me is knowing I did a good job I think patience would be my strength, explaining the same concept…

I believe the most important thing I can do for a student is to build their confidence and foster a genuine sense of self-belief in their ability to learn the topic. I believe that making students understand the way to answer question is very important. Problem-solving skills are what they really need in the future instead of helping him to solve them. Moreover, to make them enjoy studying the subject is crucial as well. If you hate the subject, you can never do well on it. Providing students with guidance is…

Being understanding of the student's needs is the duty of the tutor and do your best to improve the student's understanding of school subjects. The tutor needs to be flexible for the student's needs and make adjusts to their timetable and their needs to adjust the homework, as well as the teaching styles so students learn the content. Which means…

Obviously, an important thing that a tutor can provide to their students is to support them academically. A tutor should be articulate about their workings, and master a great command over the topic. However, a tutor should also act as a mental support. They should act as an intermediary and acts as additional help if their students have…

Inside BronteTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Chance worked on calculating the volume of cubes and developed multiplication skills through practice exercises.

In Year 9, Aaliyah focused on her science assignment by exploring DNA replication using visual aids for stop motion animation.

For a senior high school example, Year 11 student completed lessons on quadratic equations and introductory differentiation, applying both algebraic methods and step-by-step problem solving.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student, as one tutor noted, "started the assignment a few days before it was due," leading to rushed research and limited opportunity for feedback.

In Year 10 mathematics, homework was sometimes incomplete or missing during sessions—one instance saw class time spent searching for misplaced work instead of reviewing exam content.

A senior student in trigonometry repeatedly provided only final answers without showing working; this habit masked where conceptual errors occurred, especially with unit conversions.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner often relied on finger counting for multiplication facts during quick drills, slowing progress on more advanced tasks.

Recent Achievements

Jessy, a high school student in Bronte, independently graph[ed] complicated trig functions using ASTC and accurately found x-intercepts—something she struggled with just weeks earlier.

Another high school win came from Tobey, who recently completed long division questions involving decimals on his own after needing regular prompts before. He also handled ratio problem-solving with much less hesitation.

In primary years, Lucy has started recalling topics from previous sessions without reminders and now sets out her equations clearly before solving problems—a big shift from her earlier habit of jumping in without planning.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Waverley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Bronte Public School.
