I believe that being a tutor isn't always about getting the highest grade in the class but that they can improve and be confident in their abilities. If they can gain these abilities they will be able to improve on their own outside of tutoring to further speed up their knowledge and understanding of math as a whole. I believe that my strengths in…

To answer any queries first - then go ahead with the class concepts. It is so important that the student learns the foundations of their chosen subject and that these foundation principles are practiced and solid. Without these foundation, students will struggle to understand further and more complex problems, so it's up to the tutor to make sure…

I was taught that managing time and organising oneself can reduce the stress that most students face in VCE and lower levels of education thus improving grades and overall mental well being. The knowledge that I have obtained over my years at school and the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner. The tutor should not only just teach but he should be able to build confidence in the student that he can solve any question that comes in the exam. Every student has the potential and it is the tutor who should try to help them reach that. In my opinion the main job of the tutor is to see the areas of weakness in his student. Once this is done…

As briefly mentioned in the question above, the most important things tutor can do for a student is to not make the experience another class that "drags on". Interacting with the student on a level where he/she can enjoy or be intrigued by the work is essential. To do this, you cannot let the theories from a textbook stay as theories.…

Inside BundooraTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Jessie worked on long division with both single- and two-digit divisors, then practiced adding and subtracting simple fractions where denominators were factors of each other.

Year 8 student Sarah focused on algebraic equations involving all four operations, and began working with similar terms as well as finding lowest common multiples and highest common factors.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Emily completed trigonometry, applying the Pythagoras theorem to solve for unknown side lengths in right-angled triangles and using diagrams to support understanding.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 mathematics, one student's tendency to skip writing working for algebra led to repeated confusion and missed marks—"she often jumps straight to the answer, which hides small mistakes."

For a Year 11 economics student, answers lacked full explanations in economic terms; incomplete elaboration made it hard to show depth of understanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 struggled with using the correct formula during geometry questions, hesitating over which process to apply.

In each case, these habits left students spending extra time retracing steps or feeling unsure about their responses during assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Bundoora tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 10 student who used to avoid asking for help; last week, he raised his hand mid-problem and explained exactly where he was stuck, leading him to finish all the algebra questions on his own.

In another session, a Year 11 student who'd previously mixed up biology concepts began completing short-answer questions independently after using her own summary notes for the first time.

Meanwhile, Jessie in Year 5 started writing out her multiplication workings step-by-step instead of guessing—she finished her homework with only one careless mistake.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Rosanna Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ivanhoe Grammar School - University Campus.
