The tutor has so many key responsibilities and actions to do. As he/she needs to aware that individuals are understanding, there should be effective communication, setting realistic goals, creating a supportive environment and also providing them a constructive feedback. I am good in teaching and received very good compliment from my colleagues…

A tutor's greatest contribution is to give students confidence in their upcoming studies. In addition to teaching academic knowledge, tutors need to point out directions for students and divide difficult tasks into steps to cultivate students' problem-solving ability. I have sufficient experience in counseling teenagers, I am good at communicating…

The most important thing any sort of teacher or mentor can do for not just students, but anyone, is to make sure the students believe in themselves and their abilities, for that will take them beyond any test or assignment. What is also important is to make sure the students have fun while learning, for that will ensure that whatever they are…

A tutor should help students feel comfortable asking questions, adapt their teaching to students' needs, and make learning feel more approachable. A tutor can be a role model for the student. Generally students observe character and skills of a tutor and in most cases they try to imitate them. As a tutor we have to be a responsible individual gradually transferring our personality to aspiring students. After all today's students are tommorrow's mentors. I think my determination and my…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be patient. Never give up on students. Some students may be fairly poor in understanding certain difficult topics and terms, but the teacher or tutor is responsible to try every possible way to let the student understand the concept. I try to make my tutoring methods fun. I would say I…

I have a positive attitude even when the student is wrong, I correct them by not saying that they were wrong but by picking up the same topic and explaining it in the correct manner. Instead of spoon-feeding all the information, I expect students to brainstorm ideas. I motivate the student to think in various aspects which would help them broaden…

From my perspective of view, the most important things I can teach a student are the interests in this subject and finding pleasure from it. If that does not work, I will teach students the train of thought when solving different types of questions, summarise the key points and raise efficiency in their learning. A tutor must be able to secure a positive impression of the subject in the student's mind, regardless of how arduous the subject content might be. A tutor is a third parent and must have immense patience to ensure that the child grasps each and every detail, even if they ask us to repeat what we taught. Besides, as tutors, we must always advocate…

For me it is important for tutor to be able to encourage and make the student enjoy learning. Because in order for students to learn faster, they would need to be willing to digest the new knowledge and information given by the tutor. Furthermore, it is important for tutor to look at a problem from many different perspective, because one point of…

Try make tutoring fun, students no matter how hard you try will not retain information and be willing to learn if they are really against it. In my opinion, the most important thing, that a tutor can do for the student is to understand the problems which the student is facing, and then come up with a plan on how to overcome these problems. Apart from this, understanding the knowledge graph of the student, and teaching him/her according to the pattern, which they understand the most, is…

Inside BurnleyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Sam worked through factorisation in algebra and solved chemistry mole calculation problems, using step-by-step examples to clarify each process.

For Year 10, Matt focused on structuring English essays by embedding quotes effectively and linking evidence to themes in "The Golden Age."

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Yasmine practiced plotting linear equations on a graph—finding coordinates and understanding why these equations form straight lines—by working through visual exercises together.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in Mathematics often avoided writing out equations and working, relying on mental calculations—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors. This made it hard to spot where his reasoning broke down.

In Year 11 English, a student repeatedly left homework incomplete and didn't use highlighters or mindmaps for essay planning, missing opportunities to structure arguments more clearly.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 struggled with consistently bringing required books to lessons, disrupting focus at the start of each session.

During a Physics assignment in Year 12, brief answers were submitted without detail, limiting depth and understanding.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Burnley noticed Matt now completes all his English homework ahead of time and uses planning tables and flash cards to organise ideas—previously he'd only write brief notes and needed prompting.

In Year 10 Biology, another student who once hesitated with project tasks started volunteering creative ways to build a plant cell diorama after some encouragement.

Meanwhile, Yasin (Year 12) is showing real independence: instead of waiting for solutions, he's begun applying physics formulas by himself during lessons and checking his own answers before asking for help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as City of Boroondara Library Service—or at your child's school (with permission), like SEDA College (Victoria) - FFV Burnley.
