I opine that understanding the IQ and how to upgrade it is the key responsibility of a mentor. It is also imperative that a biology tutor should be patient if a child is not understanding a question and try to explore new ways to make it clear. I am very loving and patient as I know kids take time to understand the key concepts. Non-judgemental is…

I think the most important thing that a biology tutor can do for a student is to have them gain confidence with themselves in terms of excelling in school. I think this confidence is important in not just getting high marks in quizzes and tests, but I believe that being confident will help them long-term in solving problems not just in school,…

I think a biology tutor should understand a student's condition quickly and easily and see through the student on how they feel about the subject. A tutor must also be able to explain well and clearly, be patient and flexible. A tutor must show the student the way about how to learn. I am patient, reliable and know many ways on how to explain…

Tutoring can be challenging, especially when it comes to motivating your learner. You see the potential they have, and they often hear about the potential they have, but they do not feel as though they got what it takes. Living in such a busy and demanding time can often make us feel the time constraints on everything we do and we expect our…

The most crucial quality of a biology tutor has to be the ability to not be afraid of the inquisitiveness of a student and handle each and every question with patience, to be able to empathize with the student in order to understand how you would want a person to respond to you if you were in the same situation. As a person who learns in and…

The most important thing a biology tutor can do for a student is to instill a love for the subject within the student. Good tutors can effectively transfer their systems and approaches but if the student is not drawn into the subject they may less be inclined to do their homework or study independently which is as important or even more so than…

Inside BurwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised multiplication and fractions, working through long division strategies to boost confidence.

In Year 9, Ethan focused on solving quadratic equations by factorisation and simplifying expressions, as well as exploring graph transformations using visual aids.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Mia revised simultaneous equations and functions—solving systems both algebraically and graphically—to prepare for upcoming assessments.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student working on quadratic equations often omitted key steps in their written solutions—he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors—making it harder to identify mistakes.

In a Year 8 class, one student avoided homework and relied heavily on guessing answers instead of attempting the calculations, especially during worded problems.

For a Year 4 lesson, another child struggled to focus and frequently left tasks incomplete when practicing multiplication tables.

Meanwhile, a senior student preparing for exams did not attempt assigned practice papers outside lessons, resulting in less familiarity with time-pressured questions.

Recent Achievements

One Burwood tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to rely on step-by-step guidance now arriving at sessions with her own attempted exam questions, only needing small hints to push through tricky parts—she's even begun correcting her own mistakes before asking for help.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student who struggled to keep up with homework is now consistently completing tasks on time and presenting neater working out in maths, showing real ownership of her learning.

In a younger class, one child who often hesitated to start tasks has started counting by twos independently and no longer says "I don't know" right away when faced with new problems.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Zoe is great, Dylan really likes her and feels comfortable around her which is great. as you said, we wont be seeing actual result right away but I think its going to work :)

Thank you, the feedback I got from Michael is that the tutor Gavin is great and quite understanding.

Just letting you know how happy Jack is with Yuta. He's so lovely, friendly and polite and  has been  great helping Jack with his maths. Jack understands the way Yuta explains things and is much more confident with his maths now. So far this year Jack has been struggling with maths and his marks have been in the 40% range. Since the tutoring with Yuta started, Jack has sat for his Year 11 Yearly Exam in which he got 70%  which is a great improvement, so he was really happy about that and feels that with continued tutoring he can improve a little more. Jack would like to continue tutoring with Yuta  after the school holidays when school resumes, so we will keep in touch and book in again once Jack receives his new Year 12 Timetable. Thankyou.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Burwood Library and Community Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burwood Public School.
