A teacher can be a life-saver , life-director, life-changer, guider and even a role model. Teacher is the one who will teach the students about how to live a life worthwhile. 1. Make sure they have the encouragement they need. 2. The most important thing is to explain to them why they should take these studies and how it will help them in their future endeavors. 3. Treat students with respect and teach them how to treat others with respect. During my years as a student, I found it difficult to learn stuff very…

I believe the most important thing is to allow the student to share the same passion and interest for the subject, since that is the biggest factor for inciting motivation within the student to keep going. I am very patient, so if a student isn't fully understanding a topic even after multiple explanations, I wouldn't get frustrated, but instead…

I believe a tutor is not sole to enhance the academic excellence of a student, but to help the student to develop personal skills in their character and morals as well. In my opinion, a teacher is the bridge between a child and their growth to become an adult. The personal character traits, morals and ethics they learn from school and teachers…

I believe an essential aspect to include in tutoring is helping students to develop metacognitive and study skills. In mainstream education, the uniqueness of student learning processes is often neglected. When I tutor students, I highly value teaching the specific study skills that will be most effective for them, imparting not merely content…

Beyond academic knowledge, it’s crucial to boost the student’s confidence by celebrating small achievements and reinforcing their belief in their own abilities. Tutors should also aim to teach…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Is there a way the student feels they learn better? Perhaps through pictures instead of words? Is the student not focussed and extremely tired? Would it be more productive to learn outside in the backyard or reschedule for another day? Students are young, but they are young adults.…

A tutor shouldn't be the individual who would only be associated with studies and stuff. A tutor should be someone to whom a student can approach with any sorts of problem with the expectation that their tutor can find a solution to it. Moreover, a tutor should be a guiding light to the student. - Communication - Experience -…

The ability to help students learn and understand, a lot of students in class tend to say they understand, but may not actually understand, ultimately leading to a poor foundation as they move further into their studies. A trait I consider to be very important as a tutor is being a good leader. They should be very responsible for their actions, meaning that they will ensure each tutoring session is effective for the student. They should also be assertive, trustworthy and mindful, which helps them offer guidance to other students. Lastly, they should keep an open…

The most important thing a tutor can do is be there for the student. Unlike a teacher, the tutor has the luxury of being able to pace shift, and cater to the individual. Thus, taking absolute advantage of this 'power' is of the utmost importance, making sure that you, as a tutor, are meeting the needs of your student. I believe my strengths are…

I would say a tutors' ultimate goal would be to get in sync with the way the student is taught in their respective schools, colleges or universities. Inside Burwood EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex worked on two-digit by two-digit multiplication and progressed to division with remainders, often tackling worded problems for extra practice.

In Year 11, Keshara revised domain and range questions from the Methods syllabus and completed exam-style problems on transformations, including hyperbolas and parabolas.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Arjun focused on chemical analysis techniques such as IR and NMR spectrometry, alongside interpreting mass spectrometry data through targeted textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, a student "forgot to bring his SAC for review," missing a chance to address feedback before the next assessment.

In Year 8 English, homework was incomplete and spelling lists left at home, which meant less progress on writing structure and vocabulary.

A Year 12 Chemistry student's practical report was difficult to follow due to disorganised notes and uncollated results, slowing down her analysis.

Meanwhile, in Year 3–4 Maths, several students continued relying on finger counting instead of memorising times tables—"he still used hands for addition," one tutor noted—which made mental calculations slow during problem-solving.

Recent Achievements

A Burwood East tutoring session saw a Year 3 student, previously hesitant with larger multiplication problems, now requesting to tackle three-digit by two-digit questions and confidently working through each step without relying on memorisation alone.

In Year 11, one student who used to wait for explanations has started proactively asking questions about complex transformation topics, using this initiative to deepen his understanding—especially noticeable during recent exam preparation.

Meanwhile, a Year 12 biology student put together her own practical report-writing guide after struggling with structure earlier in the term, now referring back to it independently while planning new assignments.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Vermont South Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Burwood East Primary School.
