A tutor should be patient and understanding. They should listen and come up with ways ti teach which will better suit their student. I believe building a trust connection with the student is necessary so they don't hesitate to ask for help. I am a good listener, I will be able to understand the area of confusion better. If I don't know any part…

The most important thing a tutor can do for his student is that he can pass down his knowledge to his students that shall help them in the future. As a tutor my biggest strength is that I am able to connect with the student in an instant. I am not like every school tutor that is harsh on the students, I am a student myself so i behave with the…

Honestly - be patient and adaptable. So many kids have come to me after school and shown me a method that their teacher absolutely insists they use, and that they just completely don’t get. Every child learns differently. There’s no point trying to force a specific method if it simply doesn’t work for them - I struggled with this as a…

Understand what works for them and how they learn, then adapt the work to be specific to them. Keep the work engaging and ask the student what they want to learn or what their goals are. I have experience in teaching young children on a service trip through my school in maths and english (5-10 years old). I achieved an ATAR in the 90's. I…

I believe that it's crucial for a tutor to create an open and supportive relationship with their student. A student needs to feel comfortable to ask questions and communicate what they need, and it's the tutor's responsibility to create a space where that is possible. As an older sister (and informal tutor) to a 10-year-old little girl, I've…

A tutor should be able to explain topics in a variety of different ways in order to best suit the students’ needs. Local Reviews

We had a very good experience with Ezy Math. They were very proactive and great to deal with. When the first tutor we hired didn't work for us, we requested a change and they were quick to find us a replacement who was excellent. Jenny Wong is a great math Tutor and was kind, compassionate, patient and excellent at tutoring Maths. My daughter really benefited greatly and built much confidence and did well under her tutoring. Ezy Math regularly ask for feedback to see how things are going and are happy to work with you to make sure you have right tutor for your child.

Inside CamberwellTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Adele worked on operations with decimals, including multiplying and dividing them, and practised applying place value concepts to support accuracy.

Year 7 student Mia reviewed algebraic expressions—simplifying, factorising, and expanding brackets—and explored multiplying exponents with the same base using step-by-step written explanations.

Meanwhile, Jaidan in Year 8 focused on mastering Pythagoras' theorem by breaking down the formula's application to right-angled triangles and also spent time reviewing his recent test to address specific misunderstandings in geometry.

Recent Challenges

In Year 3 maths, one student often guessed answers for worded division problems or larger multiplication facts instead of working them out, saying "it's too hard" before attempting. This led to repeated confusion with remainders and symbol meanings.

In Year 7, another student rushed mental arithmetic rather than writing clear steps—"he prefers rushing through his working rather than writing it out step by step," a tutor noted—which made it difficult to track down errors in negative number calculations.

By Year 10 algebra, skipping written working meant sign errors went unnoticed until results were checked at the end, leading to frustration when mistakes accumulated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Camberwell noticed Jayden's answers have become more structured and thorough—he now explains each step in algebraic problems, rather than just giving the final answer.

Jaidan, a high school student who previously struggled with Pythagoras' theorem, was able to spot where he'd gone wrong on his last test and corrected his approach when reviewing practice questions.

Meanwhile, Mia has started asking for clarification instead of skipping tricky worded maths problems; this shift means she now completes most multi-step questions independently, including finding 10% off prices and calculating change with decimals.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Camberwell Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Camberwell Girls Grammar School.
