I find that addressing the finer parts that students find more challenging is essential for a tutor. While students may have already covered the concepts in class, the learning process is often not tailored to their individual needs. A tutors role is to adopt a more personalised approach, taking the time to understand each student’s unique level…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to use personalised strategies that suit the student's learning style so that they can benefit from their one-on-one lessons in a way that they don't have the opportunity to in the classroom. I also believe it is important for a tutor to understand both the strengths and…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to stay patient with him or her when they are not able get hold of a concept. That is what differentiates a great teacher from a good teacher. Students need to make mistakes in order to learn and it is responsibility of the teacher to stay patient while they are making mistakes and to also…

I think that structure and predictability is the most important thing a tutor can do, as it is easier for students to know what to expect in class, and future lessons. Having organised lesson plans not only ensures that all key topics are covered, but also allows students to focus more on the material itself rather than wondering what will come…

Personalized instruction, tailored to individual learning styles and needs, is paramount, as is fostering a student's confidence through positive reinforcement and celebrating progress. Listen to what the student has to say, and base their teaching strategy around their individual needs. If the tutor doesn’t listen to a student or understand their struggles with certain areas, how could the tutor expect good results from their student? I believe I am very clear and concise with what I teach, and that because of my openly…

The things I consider most important for tutors are clarity, confidence, and independence. Clear explanations can turn topics that a student might shy away from into smaller ideas that they can relate to and therefore understand. Confidence grows when you celebrate small wins and frame mistakes as part of the learning process. Afterwards,…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is give students the right direction and support so they can build confidence and excel on their own. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to build confidence, provide clarity, and offer consistent support. That means explaining ideas in a way that makes sense to that particular student, checking in to make sure they are actually…

To help the student feel more confident about approaching the subject they are learning - in my case, I love the feeling of getting across to a student who isn't particularly interested in English, and seeing points register on their faces. Inside CampbellfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zoyi focused on developing narrative writing skills and improving spelling through mock tests, while also revising Roman numerals in maths with targeted practice.

In Year 7, Marcus worked on solving algebraic equations and translating between decimals, fractions, and percentages using step-by-step breakdowns.

For Year 8, Jasmine explored probability concepts and tackled advanced multiplication problems to strengthen her calculation accuracy.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student in algebra was advised to "present his working out in a more spaced out manner"—crowded equations led to missed steps when solving for variables.

In Year 11, as one tutor noted, "double checking is essential," but skipping this meant repeating the same operation twice during advanced equation practice.

Meanwhile, a primary student's messy layout in vertical addition made it hard to track numbers accurately; she needed "extra attention to the numbers she is adding".

Homework completion and time management also became an issue for a Year 8 student—missed assignments slowed her progress on multiplying decimals.

Recent Achievements

In Year 9 maths, Joshua has moved from hesitating with fraction and decimal conversions to consistently converting and simplifying them on his own, even when the process was tricky last week.

Another high school student, Aiden, struggled previously with algebra but now shows real independence—he's proficient with equations involving coefficients and is much quicker solving problems that used to take several attempts.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Zoyi identified spelling mistakes without prompting and achieved a perfect 6/6 on her follow-up test after focused revision.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Fawkner Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Campbellfield Heights Primary School.
