I believe that the most important thing that a biology tutor can do is to work with a student from a student's perspective. It is exactly the reason why group-studying is so effective as everyone is on the same wavelength. A tutor's job is to be able to "read" into the student's mind and solve-problems by comfortably adjusting and improvising…

One of the most important things a biology tutor can do for a student is provide assistance as that is the main objective of being their tutor, mentally, academically and emotionally. I understand that being a tutor does not mean being a councellor and a supporting individual for the student but during hard and harsh times, I find it appropriate…

A tutor needs to be able to listen to their students' needs, and what they understand and do not understand. Working with students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. One thing I do when I meet the student for the very first time is to ask them questions about their interests, like sports, school subjects, music and movies. In the math problems that I create, I incorporate references to these interests. It…

To be a good tutor, I feel like you need to be personally connected with your students. Each student has their own unique situation whether it be family or academic and as a biology tutor, you must be able to work with what your students have. I believe a biology tutor can uplift the confidence of a student by encouraging him/her every step of the way which will benefit the students in their future. I would say breaking down a complex matter into a simpler solution so that the concept is easier to grasp for the students. Making the lessons easier by using storytelling as examples when…

I believe a biology tutor can help a student find the most suitable way to learn a subject that they might be struggling with in a traditional classroom. With enough encouragement and flexibility in their approach, a tutor can build a student's confidence in their own ability to learn, understand, and grow. I'm flexible with my teaching approach -…

Inside CarltonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ethan worked through simultaneous equations and revisited key trigonometry skills using practice questions.

In Year 10, Olivia focused on mastering financial maths topics like tax and superannuation, as well as learning how to calculate interest and wages from real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Zara tackled probability concepts such as mutually exclusive events and two-step experiments, completing chapter reviews from her school textbook for extra reinforcement.

Recent Challenges

Messy or unclear working was a recurring issue in Years 7–10 mathematics, especially with algebra and geometry.

For instance, as noted in Year 8, "needs to improve on writing neater working out," which led to errors when factorising quadratics and drawing diagrams for trigonometry—numbers were hard to read and mistakes crept in unnoticed.

In Year 11, a student "struggled with drawing neat tree diagrams," making it difficult to track probability outcomes.

Forgetting to write reasons during angle proofs in Year 9 meant incomplete solutions even when the logic was correct; marks were lost simply because steps weren't explained.

Recent Achievements

A Carlton tutor noticed a big turnaround for a Year 10 student who struggled last year with simplifying surds—now she tackles them confidently and can explain her steps out loud.

In Year 11, another student impressed by quickly picking up circle geometry, applying new theorems without notes, and showing much more independence during problem-solving than before.

Meanwhile, a younger student made real progress in writing—her handwriting is noticeably larger and neater after weeks of encouragement, making it easier for her to set out her maths working clearly in class assignments.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Working with Ezymath tutoring was a challenging and rewarding journey that benefited me a great deal.  The organisation is run to a very professional standard, and this can't help but rub off on the tutors it employs.  I encountered a range of challenging scenarios with Ezymath from tutoring a year two boy with learning difficulties such as ADHD to helping a girl through 2 unit maths towards her completing the HSC.  Throughout the experience, Ezymath endeavors to improve their tutors skills via series of well thought out modules that consolidate essential skills and enlighten upon some less well known elements of teaching. I would recommend Ezymath to tutors beginning their quest in the field of education and to students/parents seeking a thoroughly professional tutoring service.

We have been very happy with our tutor Sam and Charlotte has made great gains with her maths and her confidence has grown. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Sam for his patience and understanding. I would not hesitate in recommending Sam and your service.

Thanks for the past 4 years of tutoring first Kendra and then Graeme. We were very happy with Tamara indeed. She made a huge difference for Kendra's Maths results. She achieved what she required for entry to her course, and we are very thankful to Tamara for that. Not only was she an excellent tutor, but a lovely person too and the kids found her very easy to understand and got on very well with her. She made a good start with Graeme, he also has improved in his Maths, fortunately we started early with Graeme.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Carlton South Public School.
