I think a tutor should be able to form a proper teacher/student relationship, to teach students how to solve problems with a variety of different methods to find the one that suits the students the best and to have the utmost patience to make learning stress free. I am a very patient and caring person, I am excellent at communicating,…

Everything starts with guidance. Words are so powerful. So the main duty for a tutor is to give the key points to the student and make the student love the subject. So if you give the right guidance to the student they will be more courageous in the following courses. Because i was a honours student both in high school and university, i believe…

Ultimately, a tutor must teach his/her student to be able to rely on themselves and think autonomously when problem solving i.e. not to be afraid of trial and error. I would say my strengths are attributes such as patience with the student (repetition when necessary), determination in getting the message across, and a friendly attitude towards all…

Improve the students confidence in their own abilities as learners and to instil in them the belief that they can achieve academic success. To question their understanding of what was covered in the lesson to help them remember the lesson. Whether that is learning something new, revising an important topic, helping with homework, or asking a question, the tutor must ensure that the student is getting quality help to ensure success for exams. i think the best thing a tutor can do in order to properly teach a student is for the tutor to try and put their level of thinking at the same level as the student in order to communicate effective information that is more likely to be retained by the student. i think my biggest strength is adapting to each students needs and way of learning. i…

The thing I consider to be a crucial thing a tutor can do for a student is to be understanding and having patience, as all students learn differently while also having various areas they exell and fail at, but having patience and understanding allows the students to feel comfortable with the tutor knowing the won't be judged for concepts they do…

The most important thing a tutor can do for the student is to believe in them and show encouragement. In my opinion the most important things a tutor can offer a student is confidence and guidance. This is because as a tutor, building a student's confidence can directly impact their attitude towards learning and how well they can achieve the marks they are aiming for. Similarly, by giving guidance to a student, not only prompts them into learning…

As tutoring gives a more face to face approach, a tutor can do more than a teacher on some occasions for a student as they give more individual focus on each student's weakness and strengths. The most important thing I can do for a student is giving them the time, knowledge and hands-on approach others who cannot do that for them. Tutoring can…

Inside Carss ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava focused on graphing linear equations and finding the equation of a line using coordinates, practising both plotting and algebraic representation.

In Year 9, Liam worked through applications of Pythagoras' Theorem to solve right-angled triangle problems, reinforcing understanding with real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, Year 4 student Max tackled complex addition and subtraction with larger numbers and began exploring foundational multiplication skills through step-by-step practice and targeted homework tasks.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's algebra progress was held back by not reviewing classwork between sessions; as one tutor noted, "I end up having to spend the next week covering what I went through the previous week."

In Year 6 maths, a student often forgot methods taught for long division and multiplication, especially when notes were misplaced or left incomplete.

Meanwhile, in Year 4 English, homework wasn't finished and new vocabulary wasn't practiced in sentences—leading to less confidence during spelling activities.

Inattentiveness and distraction during lessons also caused missed instructions in both primary maths and secondary English.

Recent Achievements

One Carss Park tutor noticed a Year 11 student who used to hesitate with chemistry calculations now solving titration questions accurately after just one practice session.

Another high schooler, previously anxious about timed writing tasks, recently wrote a full TEEL paragraph under time pressure and even volunteered to read it aloud—something she avoided before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled to recall multiplication facts now completes smile-method long multiplication almost independently, correcting her own errors before being prompted and even choosing tougher questions for extra practice.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as South Hurstville—or at your child's school (with permission), like Blakehurst Public School.
