The most important thing is to keep calm and listen to them. As a tutor you can never lose your calm irrespective of how many times your student makes the same mistake. You might have to repeat yourself hundreds of times, but that shouldn't be a problem. It is important to understand their questions and respond to them accordingly. It is also…

Aside from teaching students the concepts required for their study, it's essential for tutors or any teacher for that matter to teach students how to learn. This involves critical thinking, asking the right questions, learning from their mistakes and developing good study habits. Once these are imparted in the students, they are given the tools…

I believe striking a balance in how the tutor interacts with a student is key. Being able to listen and identify a student's problem areas, as well as being firm enough to hold their attention is vital. A good tutor can set expectations tailored to a student's abilities and with them raise them while boosting their confidence. Overall personality…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are assisting them with their studies and provide comfort. Being a tutor is about being genuine and sincere in teaching, and to realize that we play a major role in being a witness to the students' growth. Our job is to give a pathway for students to be engaged in the subject, give a reason to why they should learn it, and for them to accomplish great things in the future. Teach not only concepts but how…

A tutor can change the approach of a student towards a subject- from pessimism to optimism, and make him/her excel in that subject. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Is there a way the student feels they learn better? Perhaps through pictures instead of words? Is the student not focussed and extremely tired? Would it be more productive to learn outside in the backyard or reschedule for another day? Students are young, but they are young adults.…

Give them a safe space to ask questions and learn in a way they enjoy and are progressing in. There is no point in being over qualified and intelligent, but unapproachable and closed off. Local Reviews

Deepti has been tutoring my son in Year 7. Deepti has developed an amazing rapport with my son and has inspired him emensely. His maths results for algebra have improved out of sight since having Deepti tutor him. Deepti is able to engage him and explain the rules and concepts and reinforce them through practice. Having been a teacher myself, I am very impressed with Deepti's skills and this has been reflected in my son's results. In addition his keenness in maths since having Deepti as his tutor is very impressive.

Inside CaulfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lisa worked on probability through coin toss experiments and tree diagrams, plus an introduction to Venn diagrams for visualising outcomes.

In Year 8, Parth tackled coordinate geometry by practising plotting points and finding intersections of lines using graphical methods.

For Year 10, Marcus focused on quadratic equations—using the discriminant, applying the quadratic formula, and completing the square—building problem-solving confidence with step-by-step worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student repeatedly relied on a calculator for simple calculations and missed signs in coordinate geometry when not listing knowns/unknowns. This made it harder to spot mistakes during review.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student arrived without their workbook or preparation notes, leaving them unable to attempt assigned statistics problems.

In Year 5, messy written working on fraction questions meant errors went unnoticed until the end—he guessed answers instead of showing steps, as noted by the tutor.

In each case, rushed or incomplete process habits left gaps that surfaced in class and homework time alike.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caulfield noted that a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly pinpointing mistakes and correcting them during sessions, showing real ownership of her learning.

In Year 11, another student made a breakthrough with finance questions: after struggling with graph-based problems before, he now tackles these independently and even writes clear, detailed answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who once rushed through number pattern tasks has begun breaking down questions step by step, reading each carefully before attempting an answer—finishing all the sequence terms accurately on her own this week.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

MIchael has enjoyed Nathan's tutoring sessions. My son found Nathan's theory far more informative and much clearer then his current maths teacher. Michael connected well with Nathan.

Ezymath were professional and helpful, they quickly obtained a tutor in my area whilst other tutoring companies had glossy ads or websites, but were disinterested or did not get back to me. The tutor provided helped my daughter improve greatly in Maths. I would recommend their service to anyone.

I have seen improvement already. Jason is a gem and I want to continue with Will having his weekly tutoring session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caulfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Montessori College - Caulfield South Campus.
