The one-on-one nature of tutoring is significantly conducive to not only the comprehension of the content, but to the students interpersonal skills. Having a mentor will give the student an academic confidence to succeed in what ever path they may decide to take. I am good at explaining the course material to the students level, with examples that…

The imperative role of a tutor is to listen and care for the student's concerns. When you are 1 on 1 with a student, they should feel comfortable to admit the academic challenges they are facing and trust that you are equipped to adapt to their needs. They should look forward to their interactions with you, as if they enjoy the tutoring sessions,…

Personally, I do believe that understanding plays a major role in learning. Hence, clearing any confusion of all students is vital to build a strong foundation in their understanding. I spend time listening to them to find out what are their needs. The main issue is to discover which part they are facing a problem with. From then on, it will be…

Since it is mostly 1-on-1, tutoring allows for more detailed instructions and explanations, and I think this does wonders for students who couldn't quite catch up in a classroom environment. Clarifying misunderstanding, further explaining a formula, providing tricks and tips, and cementing the basics are all extremely important in helping a…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is relate to the situation the student is in. Not everyone is the same and that’s why tutors should be able to combat that and teach accordingly. Not only that but also provide the student with an effective way for them to study the subject. Without that studying can become very difficult. I can…

Local Reviews

Deepti has been tutoring my son in Year 7. Deepti has developed an amazing rapport with my son and has inspired him emensely. His maths results for algebra have improved out of sight since having Deepti tutor him. Deepti is able to engage him and explain the rules and concepts and reinforce them through practice. Having been a teacher myself, I am very impressed with Deepti's skills and this has been reflected in my son's results. In addition his keenness in maths since having Deepti as his tutor is very impressive.

Inside CaulfieldTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Lisa worked on probability through coin toss experiments and tree diagrams, plus an introduction to Venn diagrams for visualising outcomes.

In Year 8, Parth tackled coordinate geometry by practising plotting points and finding intersections of lines using graphical methods.

For Year 10, Marcus focused on quadratic equations—using the discriminant, applying the quadratic formula, and completing the square—building problem-solving confidence with step-by-step worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, one student repeatedly relied on a calculator for simple calculations and missed signs in coordinate geometry when not listing knowns/unknowns. This made it harder to spot mistakes during review.

Meanwhile, a Year 8 student arrived without their workbook or preparation notes, leaving them unable to attempt assigned statistics problems.

In Year 5, messy written working on fraction questions meant errors went unnoticed until the end—he guessed answers instead of showing steps, as noted by the tutor.

In each case, rushed or incomplete process habits left gaps that surfaced in class and homework time alike.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Caulfield noted that a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly pinpointing mistakes and correcting them during sessions, showing real ownership of her learning.

In Year 11, another student made a breakthrough with finance questions: after struggling with graph-based problems before, he now tackles these independently and even writes clear, detailed answers without prompting.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who once rushed through number pattern tasks has begun breaking down questions step by step, reading each carefully before attempting an answer—finishing all the sequence terms accurately on her own this week.

l am extremely happy with Tara. She is such a lovely person, so thank-you for sending her to us.

Adib is wonderful. Ethan enjoys the time spent with him and is getting his motivation back, which is great.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Caulfield Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Melbourne Montessori College - Caulfield South Campus.
