I believe as a tutor, it is important to teach the subject to the student in a way that is enjoyable while still delivering the knowledge across. It is important that the tutor is not simply feeding the student equations or tricks to achieve good marks, but that the tutor is helping the student understand the topic enough to be able to solve…

I think the most important things a tutor can do are to help students build confidence, develop a positive mindset, and feel safe and supported in their learning. Encouraging them to ask questions, embrace mistakes, and believe in their ability to grow is so important. Every student is unique, and it's essential to provide personalized support…

The most important thing a tutor can do for their student is to build confidence and independence. It is to not only to help them get the right answers, it is to make them understand the ‘why’ so they can think critically and solve problems independently. A good tutor also creates a safe space for their student to ask question without…

I believe it's important to provide clear and simple explanations, as well as to instil confidence in students' minds, as it empowers them to embrace challenges and achieve their full potential. Confidence encourages students to see learning as manageable rather than difficult. They need to enjoy what they do. According to my ex-students'…

Create a friendly environment where the student is not afraid to communicate and also encourage the student to ask questions over and over again and never let him/her feel that he/she is incapable that other students. The ability to read a student's mind and work accordingly is what I believe a tutor should look to do.Besides teaching, I also try…

The most important thing is to make an individual understand the concept of the problem rather than individual problems so that they don't feel nervous when they a similar problem is presented in front of them. A tutor needs to be able to clearly communicate with the student with their studies. There is little meaning if tutors do nut put in the effort to understand how the students think when they're studying. I have had experience in informal tutoring during high school. The most important thing is to keep calm and listen to them. As a tutor you can never lose your calm irrespective of how many times your student makes the same mistake. You might have to repeat yourself hundreds of times, but that shouldn't be a problem. It is important to understand their questions and respond to them accordingly. It is also…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is tailor their teaching to the individual. Outside of a large class of students it becomes easier to change a lesson to suit a particular student, spending more time on a point when a student is struggling with it and ensuring that a topic is perfectly understood before moving on. I think…

The student will get little from the sessions if they don’t find what is being taught to them as fun or exciting. I think that as a tutor, it is important to not take the "one fits all" approach for lessons. Rather, it is important for tutors to be flexible, as the way in which students learn best varies widely. A good tutor can pick up on the learning style of their students, and subsequently adapt their lessons to ensure maximum growth and improvement. As a…

Local Reviews

Ezy Math Tutoring have been extremely helpful and easy to deal with. Very professional with their communication and efforts to find the right tutors to fit my son's needs. The tutors themselves have made a big difference to my son's school performance and have always been reliable, knowledgeable, relatable and friendly. Highly Recommend.

Inside ChadstoneTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 Mason practiced reading comprehension by answering questions about short stories and tackled subtraction problems from his maths workbook, also focusing on letter formation in handwriting.

In Year 11, Ash reviewed dramatic techniques in Greek tragedy—exploring catharsis and the tragic hero—and studied leadership styles and organisational structures for business management using real-world examples.

Another session with Ash (Year 12) focused on applying business management concepts to exam-style case study scenarios, discussing how different organisational approaches impact outcomes.

Recent Challenges

A Year 12 student preparing for Business Management SACs struggled with time management, leaving some exam questions unfinished and rushing essay structure—"needed more precise argument progression," one note read.

In Psychology, another senior hesitated to put definitions in their own words, making revision less effective.

A Year 9 student's homework was repeatedly incomplete; when asked about it, they admitted motivation had dropped after missing earlier deadlines.

In Years 3–4 maths, several students avoided writing working for addition and subtraction problems ("did the maths in his head and couldn't explain reasoning"), leading to confusion and slow progress when faced with new question types.

Recent Achievements

Ash has started setting her own goals and now organises all her work ahead of time—something she hadn't done before—so she's fully prepared for assessments in business management.

In Year 11 English, another student who used to struggle with structuring essays was able to funnel her ideas into three clear topic sentences during an essay planning session.

Meanwhile, Mason managed to read two chapters aloud of an illustrated novel with minimal help after previously needing frequent prompting on each page.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Phoenix Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Salesian College Chadstone.
