Provide them with confidence: with my own experience in the subjects myself, I can show them the path they can follow to improve their marks, the advice I can give as an expert giving them encouragement that things are not hopeless, and that success is tangible. Teach them how to think, not parrot: I learnt myself in highschool english, my…

As a tutor, I believe the success of the student must always be the central focus. The ability to translate complex course material into a format that is within a student centered model of teaching while focusing on critical thinking skills aiding in solving the problems of the course material. I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not give their tutees the answer, but give their tutees ways to get to the answer. Teaching students how to understand problems at a fundamental level, break them down into parts they can individually understand and then piece together, ideally all on their own. This kind of critical thinking…

My experience with helping my friends and classmates speaks here, that I should be patient and understanding about their situation, at the same time be scheduled and organized so the tutor and a student can be kept up to schedule with the current position of their curriculum, whist not feeling pressured to do so. I believe the greatest strength a tutor can have is the ability to understand each student's needs, such as identifying their weaknesses, documenting progress, and adapting lessons so the material really helps. Building a friendly relationship also helps students feel comfortable asking questions. With more tutoring experience, I feel like I’ve…

I feel that encouraging students and pushing them to their full potential is so important. I am very passionate about…

Simplify concepts in an understandable personalized way for them to understand at their own rythm. A tutor can relieve the preassure of due dates or schedules from the classroom and advance along with the student. Focusing on understanding how the student learns, ask them about their interests and being able to relate the subject with something…

Helping students mentally through encouragement and giving them tips on how to thrive in any avenue of study and learning will benefit them far more than just learning a formula or…

I believe that truly successful tutors create a positive learning environment for their students where questions and mistakes are rewarded and examined in order to address all of the student's queries on the content. Not only is this environment a highly effective way to ensure a deep understanding of the course, it encourages curiosity and makes…

Ease their anxiety. Time spent on understanding. (Process is more important than the result) Giving them the tools to fish than rather the fish itself. Showing them stress doesn’t solve problems, making an effort does. There is nothing you can’t do. One day these things will help you. Make them realise their potential. Patience…

Inside CheltenhamTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 Jack reviewed Ohm's Law and the differences between series and parallel electric circuits, also addressing questions from his school work.

For Year 11 Mia, lessons focused on algebraic factorisation of linear expressions and coordinate geometry—calculating midpoints, gradients, and distances between two points.

Meanwhile, Year 11 Olivia worked through exam revision covering quadratic equations, probability problems, graphing equations, and aspects of financial mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student found aligning number places in decimal calculations confusing, particularly when working on clock questions—her written layout sometimes made it hard to check work for errors.

In Year 8, one student often relied heavily on notes and formula sheets during revision; he wasn't able to do some of the revision questions without looking at his notes, which slowed progress with algebra and indices.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student had incomplete homework in statistics, meaning less time could be spent practicing exam-style problems. Gaps from missing or late schoolwork lingered into revision sessions, especially before assessments.

Recent Achievements

One Cheltenham tutor noted a big shift in a Year 10 student who, after previously hesitating to ask for help, now openly voices questions whenever she's confused—especially during challenging proofs.

In Year 12 maths, Levi struggled with expanding and factorising equations at first, but recently completed all set problems independently and accurately.

Meanwhile, a younger student in primary years, who found division daunting before, has started grouping objects into sets using diagrams and then confidently writing out the matching equation without prompting—something she would have avoided just weeks ago.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Epping Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Epping Heights Public School.
