I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student to do encourage them and help them learn to believe in their ability and themselves. Most importantly a tutor can help set realistic goals and when the student achieves them they can be proud of themself. Also tutoring can help teach students new studying technique for them to use…

I think that possibly the most important thing a tutor can do is instill confidence in a student. By motivating and building a positive relationship with the student a tutor can really motivate a student to succeed. It is extremely important to be patient and understanding with the student, and provide support and encouragement. Finally, I think…

To be patient, understanding and always willing to go back to the basics and refresh their memory and to get the work to fit together. But mostly the tutor must be someone who the student is comfortable with and able to ask any questions or queries however small or silly they may think they might be. Strengths: Excelent communication and people…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel good about themselves. I feel it is essential that they do this through teaching so that the student feels happy when they start to understand and do stuff they were orginally having trouble over. I am a bright and bubbly person. I will never judge people for…

Firstly, I believe developing a strong relationship with a student is one of the most important things a student can do. This shows trust and allows students to give their full potential during sessions. Another important part of tutoring is to have a clear and well designed plan for the session ahead, which makes both the student and tutor have a…

A tutor should focus more on the foundation of the student and focus more on the basics of the subject. Also, corelating the subject with real-life examples could make learning easier and more interesting. I believe I have the right amount of patience required to tutor students. Also, I am open to interactive methods of tutoring and try to be…

A good teacher can make a good difference in a student's life. A tutor can also give good guidance to the student, letting them aware of the good and bad things about life. A teacher not only teaches a subject to the student but also builds a certain part of the student's character. A teacher also builds a student's future, if a student is…

A tutor can help a student get more fluent, confident and clear about concepts and working. Inspiration and motivation. Encouraging students to like the material they study, and want to master the subject's content to achieve their academic goals. Patience and vision. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to believe in them. When a child's role model believes in them they begin to believe in themselves and, I believe, that is the first step to accomplishing great things. If a child believes that they have the ability to do something they are more inclined to put more effort…

Nat has been incredible. The improvement in Jake has far exceeded my expectations. Just having that extra person to reinforce the lessons and give another way to view the coursework has been invaluable. We are very lucky to have Nat on our team, and with his help we will give Jake the best possible chance at excelling at school.

Inside Chirnside ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Erin practiced times tables and explored strategies for staying focused during maths tasks.

For Year 10, Josh revised trigonometry concepts alongside bearings using practice questions to prepare for an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Codi worked on identifying stationary points and applied this understanding to real-world context problems in advanced mathematics.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed a strong preference for using only one multiplication method, which limited flexibility when faced with unfamiliar problems.

In VCE Maths, another student "relied heavily on formulas," as noted by the tutor, and struggled to adapt when questions required understanding rather than memorisation—this became clear during factorisation and trigonometry tasks.

A Year 8 learner often forgot to show working in algebraic questions, leading to lost marks in tests; skipped steps hid sign errors that were not caught in time.

For several Year 6 students, over-reliance on calculators for basic arithmetic made mental calculation and times tables less fluent during pen-and-paper activities.

Recent Achievements

Josh, a high school student in Chirnside Park, is now double-checking and self-correcting his work more often—he'll catch and fix errors as he explains his reasoning aloud, something he used to overlook.

In another recent session, Sara has started doing most of her addition mentally instead of reaching for the calculator first. She's begun self-checking her answers before asking for feedback.

For a younger student, Emma now confidently multiplies two-digit numbers by one-digit numbers without much trouble—a big step up from needing guidance on each problem just a few weeks ago.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Thanks for the email and yes Tannishka is very happy with Ryans tutoring. He is already showing signs of improvement.

Michael has been great and the sessions have been productive. Uznar now feels she has caught up with the rest of the class.

Yarra is very happy with Andrea, and I can already notice improvements :-) I expect Andrea to keep tutoring Yarra for a long time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mooroolbark Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chirnside Park Primary School.
