I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make them feel good about themselves. I feel it is essential that they do this through teaching so that the student feels happy when they start to understand and do stuff they were orginally having trouble over. I am a bright and bubbly person. I will never judge people for…

A tutor is someone who encourages the students to get best of them. Moreover, tutor is also responsible for creating moral values in students as many students see their teachers as their ideal or mentor. I don't see teaching just as a formality. I create a fun and friendly environment to teach the students so that they don't get bored. I also…

Teaching math or English?! students can get that information from books, the internet, online courses and so many other ways. But things that a crafty and caring tutor would do is to support, understand, and talk, in one word, be there for the student. Due to the individuality of each student a personalised experience must be created by tutors, through adapting teaching methods and lesson plans, to stimulate the unique minds of students. This shows trust and allows students to give their full potential during sessions. Another important part of tutoring is to have a clear and well designed plan for the session ahead, which makes both the student and tutor have a…

A tutor can help a student get more fluent, confident and clear about concepts and working. When they have someone who makes learning effective, fun and interactive it makes learning fun and worthwhile. Helping people understand why learning is important to them. Kids can find it hard to see why what they're learning is important. I think a fundamental key is showing how the process of learning itself is the important aspect, rather than specifically the content. While the content is important to grasp, the process of regular work towards a goal,…

Inspiration and motivation. Encouraging students to like the material they study, and want to master the subject's content to achieve their academic goals. Patience and vision. Inside KaloramaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Erin worked on strategies for recalling times tables and ways to improve focus during problem-solving.

Year 10 student Codi revised circular functions in preparation for an upcoming exam and practiced applying trigonometric ratios.

For a senior secondary student, recent lessons focused on Unit 3 Chemistry, covering fuel cells as well as redox reactions, with relevant textbook questions used for consolidation.

Recent Challenges

In Year 4 mathematics, one student avoided writing out working for large addition and subtraction problems, preferring mental calculations. As a tutor noted, "she tends to add and subtract big numbers in her head rather than writing down her working out," which led to confusion when errors appeared.

In Year 10 English, another student's ideas were strong but she struggled to express them clearly on paper; overly wordy sentences sometimes muddled her arguments during essay tasks.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 maths student repeatedly left revision sheets untouched before tutoring sessions—this meant valuable time was spent catching up rather than focusing on specific exam-style questions.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Kalorama recently saw some great steps forward with students across different year levels. In Year 10 maths, Ayelet began tackling index laws with much less guidance and now talks through her process aloud—previously, she hesitated to explain her reasoning but is becoming more self-assured each session.

Meanwhile, Lizzie (Year 12 English) has started embedding quotes into her essays without prompting and even introduced new interpretations to their discussions, a shift from relying mainly on tutor feedback before.

In a younger session, Maya challenged herself by completing a division speed round in just two minutes after struggling with accuracy and timing earlier in the term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Regarding Zoe's tutoring with Sean. I spoke to Zoe last night after her lesson with Sean and she seems quite happy with him and is happy to continue with him. We to are happy with the way he is tutoring Zoe.

Calvin and Gabby are working well together. Gabby even got an award at school. We are happy with the way things are going at the moment

Barbara tells me that she is understanding and Erin is lovely. So far so good .

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Montrose Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Mount Dandenong Primary School.
