The most crucial things a tutor can do for a student are academic supervision, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these can possibly redefine a class, subject, or school more generally for a learner. A high level of energy and patience are two of my strongest assets. I strongly rely on these traits when I'm tutoring. My…

Be a good friend with the student first. Teach him as if he his friend is teaching him. Be strict at a times when he is not listening but its good for him so its ok to be strict sometimes. I catch the loop hole of the child where he has maximum tendency to make mistakes. So that I can focus on that main area. I am a very friendly teacher and…

I think ultimately as a tutor the most important thing is developing kids confidence, In math for example, problems can seem very complicated and overwhelming and it isn't just enough showing students how to solve them but giving them the tools to approach all problems and break them down and I think In doing that difficult problems become much…

The most important thing a student can get from a tutor is unconditional support, and students should be assured that they have the right to ask their tutors any questions they may have. A tutor should firstly be encouraging; to be more confident in their studies, for them to work hard and try their best, and to inspire a love of learning. Secondly, it is imperative to be understanding. Every student is unique, with varying goals, learning styles, and abilities, so learning should be tailored to each individual to ensure every…

Every student is different and every student has different ways of understanding concepts. Some might learn them easily via a practical approach while others focus on the theory first. Encouragement is the most important quality a tutor should have. Doubt is unfortunately a huge negative factor when trying to learn so when a tutor shows a true belief to a student, confidence sparks & can fuel motivation. One of the best qualities of a tutor is to create a personal connection to your student. I aim to instil students with effective learning strategies. People aren’t taught how to effectively learn and study, and often they can feel lost. The most crucial thing a tutor can do for a student, in my opinion, is to foster an atmosphere in which they feel free to ask for assistance without the fear of judgement. Additionally, I think that assigning extra work—despite the kids' resentment—can be beneficial because it will empower them to solve the problems on their own and promote…

I think there are two things a tutor can do for a student. 1. Give a confidence in the subject and it will improve his/her confidence as a whole. 2. Make them comfortable by knowing there is someone who can teach questions. I can make a child sitting with me concentrate on math for a while. And I can explain from the very basic where they stuck…

Ensuring they understand in their own way and being able to recognise when the student does not understand. If the tutor can recognise when the student does not understand, instead of moving on and the student now has a gap in their fundamental knowledge, the tutor can attempt to convey the knowledge in a style more suited to the student. I have a…

Inside ClarksonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Alex worked on adding and subtracting large numbers and decimals, as well as calculating **perimeter in measurement problems**.

For Year 9, Jasmine tackled **surface area calculations for prisms and cylinders**, applying formulas to different shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lucas reviewed trigonometry with a focus on **solving angles of elevation and depression using real-world examples**.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student often left homework incomplete, particularly the second page of their maths booklet, leading to confusion with worded fraction problems.

In Year 9, one student relied heavily on having an iPad nearby during sessions—"it ends up being a bit distracting most of the time and really shouldn't be in the room if not necessary"—and forgot to bring home their assessment sheet, making it difficult to understand teacher expectations.

For a Year 11 student preparing for OLNA-style questions, reluctance to start questions meant revision time was lost at the outset instead of being spent on practice and feedback.

Recent Achievements

One Clarkson tutor noticed a big change in Ella, a Year 10 student who used to keep her ideas to herself—this week, she shared her opinions unprompted on a film's themes, something she'd avoided during previous assignments.

In Year 8 maths, Kyle has become much quicker and more accurate at solving measurement problems; when tutoring first started, he often hesitated and double-checked every answer.

For a younger student in Year 4, making division questions about money finally clicked—she now confidently works through problems independently, linking them back to real-world dollars and cents and finishing all the set questions without help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clarkson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clarkson Primary School.
