A tutor can develop a passion of learning in a student so that a student can learn and grow even when the teacher is with the student or not. Its similar to teach a person how to fish instead giving them fish to eat. If student learn how to learn on their own, how to solve problems, and what should be the approach to a problem then it is more than…

The most important thing is to keep calm and listen to them. As a tutor you can never lose your calm irrespective of how many times your student makes the same mistake. You might have to repeat yourself hundreds of times, but that shouldn't be a problem. It is important to understand their questions and respond to them accordingly. It is also…

A tutor MUST be able to explain concepts to students in very different ways that allow them to understand a difficult topic. Tutors can be a reason to guide the students in the right direction. Sometimes, a student might need a tiny little nudge to get them on track and tutors can be or are the right persons for that. A tutor can be a friend guiding the student in every obstacle they come across. A tutor can also be a role model for the students by creating a long…

Inside ClaytonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Lucy worked through surface area and volume calculations in measurement, followed by trigonometry basics using visual aids.

For Year 10, Daniel focused on mastering linear equations and interpreting univariate data sets, with practice constructing and analysing graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sarah concentrated on bivariate data analysis and time series interpretation, applying these skills to real-world scenarios in her textbook exercises.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10 Maths, a student left notes at school and relied on scattered digital files during finance revision; as the tutor observed, "he was flipping through pages to find a particular formula," which slowed progress and caused confusion with recurrence relations.

For VCE Maths Methods, another student frequently entered incorrect data into the CAS calculator or forgot to bring it home for practice, leading to incomplete preparation for graphing tasks.

Meanwhile, in Year 3 English, unclear punctuation and skipping question instructions—such as colouring more items than asked—created repeated misunderstandings mid-lesson that disrupted focus and accuracy.

Recent Achievements

One Clayton tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 10 student who now takes the lead in making clear, simplified notes during sessions—something he rarely attempted before—which has helped him remember key trigonometry tips from previous lessons.

In a senior session, another student tackled her Statistics test with noticeably more confidence, scoring 86 after consistently struggling on earlier assessments and using her calculator skills much more independently this time.

Meanwhile, a younger student surprised his tutor by speaking up to ask for extra explanations about converting length units, rather than waiting passively as he had done at first.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Michelle has been great with Shanique and is very easy to communicate with. Shanique has mentioned she's understanding the benefits of a tutor as she was a little apprehensive at first. They are settling in well.

Here is our feedback on Linh. - Hyper-reliable. Always on time, always communicated plans. - Motivated Joshua - Joshua came home from the Tut sessions feeling great. - Clearly, put in prep work, and had revision sheets and questions ready for Joshua. - Answered Joshua's problematic questions. - Great engagement with parents.

We have been very happy with Pat. Harriet has definitely progressed well in her maths under Pats tutoring.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Clayton Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Peter's School.
