A tutor knows every thing about their students whether they are comfortable with his or her method of teaching? The most important thing that a tutor can do is to teach them like a friend so that students won’t hesitate in asking questions again and again. Every mind is different, every student different. So i teach the way student understands…

Tutors should place them selves in the position of the student and understand their learning style. Tutor should be approchable and patient. And follow through their students (i.e. how did their exam go). I am persistent, creative and solutions driven. I have deep technical mathematics background because of my degree in Civil Engineering. I have…

Try and encourage the student to approach topics in different ways and think outside the box. Being a role model and motivating them to learn. Understanding that each individual learns differently and finding the way that they learn best. Being patient with students, and breaking down complex topics in different ways to try and help them…

The most important role of the tutor would be to support the student in all manner a way, be it motivating them through a tough or stressful period or providing the resources and experiences to guide them through high school. My high school experiences of going through the rigorous James Ruse high school maths program, which have taught me all the…

The most important thing a tutor can do is inspire students to feel excited about learning. Everything becomes difficult if there is no desire to learn; having at least some interest makes the process easier over time. If I can make learning enjoyable for my students, then I consider that a job well done. I am patient and respect the boundaries of…

Instead of being a tutor, I would prefer more as a mentor. To me, academic success is important; there are as well other aspects to help children achieve greatness, eg self-discipline, studying independently, academic honesty etc. I am a responsible parent. I sincerely care about children in general. Other strengths I consider myself…

A tutor should be able to empathise with their students, being able to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their student and how the student can overcome their weaknesses and rely on their strengths, adapting to their needs. Weaknesses refer not to just academic shortcomings, such as a weaker spot for mathematics or English, but in a more…

The most important thing for a tutor is not just to address the inquiries of the students and create a positive studying environment. More importantly, it is to connect with all the students and make them feel safe and connected in class. This not only will assist in their ability to absorb the information but also allow them to not be afraid to…

The most important thing as a tutor is to always encourage their students, regardless of the circumstances. At the end of the day, it's not academic performance that truly matters, but rather the student's interest towards the subject. As well as this, there are times in which the student may stress out due to academic pressure, and it is times…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can provide towards a student apart from knowledge is the heightened sense of ease during an exam; through frequent testing under standard exam conditions the student is able to adapt to the stressful exam situations as if it was second nature. Good examination techniques should also be passed onto the…

The most important thing for a tutor to do is not to continuously teach a concept but to teach it once (if the student has not learnt properly from school) and solidify that knowledge. It's also important to be not only a tutor, but a mentor as well. Strengths:: *Strong Communication of Ideas *Experience with Tutoring of all…

I think the two most important things are to instil confidence in the students, while also being supportive and non-judgemental. I do believe when students have a sense that tutors possess these characteristics, they would be more open, eager and involved during the lessons. I focus on individual empowerment. I acknowledge that every student has a…

Inside Clemton ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Emily practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator and previewed long division, while also working on understanding maths in word problems through homework tasks.

In Year 8, Lucas focused on factorising quadratic equations and revising how to use the quadratic formula to solve them, including discussing what "roots" mean for parabolas.

Year 9 student Sarah worked on manipulating linear equations by making a variable the subject and used tables and graphs to explore relationships between variables.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student avoided writing working for long division, preferring mental methods; this led to mistakes he couldn't check or fix—"He needs more practice to ensure he follows the new method instead of depending on his older method."

In Year 11 trigonometry, a tendency to regurgitate formulas without showing process meant errors went unnoticed.

For a Year 3 student, skipping homework and resisting new ways of setting out sums blocked progress with fractions.

Another in Year 7 hesitated to ask questions during algebra revision, missing feedback that would have clarified misconceptions and built confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Clemton Park tutor noticed a big change in Willa, a high school student who used to get stuck on wordy maths problems—she now asks questions when unsure and recently solved several tricky ones on her own using new strategies.

Cooper, also in high school, shifted from waiting for hints to actively looking for solutions and tackling quadratic equations with much more independence than before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who previously needed help reading longer passages managed to read an entire book out loud solo this week, only stumbling over a couple of words.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Bexley North Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clemton Park Public School.
