Tutor should raise the confidence level in students by giving each and every child a chance to speak and answer in the class whether online or on-campus. The main motive of a tutor should be solving all the academic difficulties bothering students. I’ve tutored for almost 2 years, which made me proficient in both working and learning new things.…

I wholeheartedly believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is listen. Listen to how they like to learn and build a plan based around that. From that, Humility, Passion and Motivation follows, as not only is the student learning, but so are you. Therefore, building a good channel of communication with your student, both…

Since this is a 1-on-1 tutorial, the tutor must give full attention to the student. Also to find ways to make sessions enjoyable but not to the point of sacrificing the time for teaching. And again to be patient so that the student can fully understand the topics being discussed. My best quality as a tutor would be my patience. I know a lot of…

Being a student myself, I know how students are curious about multiple aspects but don't ever question them because they think the question is stupid. However, as a tutor I can provide them the support they need outside of their school to ensure they properly understand every topic. I haven't really tutored anyone before, but from helping my peers…

A student looks up to a tutor for support and guidance. Hence, it is important for a tutor to be encouraging. A tutor must also be able to identify areas or misconception that requires remediation. At the same time, a tutor should not be spoon-feeding but provide sufficient guidance to allow the student to derive at the answer by himself. I am…

The most important things a tutor can do is to be able to break down complex concepts more digestible parts, making learning process less intimidating. Fostering a sense of confidence in the student, by creating a safe space for them to learn and grow accelerates this technique. It’s also crucial to adapt to the student’s needs, helping them…

Personally, the most important thing I think a tutor can do to help students is to reduce their study burden. Most of the time when a tutor is called in, it is primarily because the children struggle with this particular subject and needed help. Therefore, it is only fair if the burden be lifted off of them and not asserting more. Some mistake the…

The most important thing or a challenge for a tutor is to involve a student in a subject not just for it's technicality but for its application in real life. Therefore it's important to find the bridge between what you study and real life in not all but most cases to keep studies interesting. If not, find a funny way or create a situation that…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is be patient and understand the ways their students learn best. It’s not always easy to grasp new topics quickly so tutors should be able to stay calm and understand how their student learns in order to teach them effectively. I am adaptable and flexible. I make sure I have a wide range of ways…

Tutors should be able to not only teach concepts to students but also get them to have a genuine interest in the subject, as this further increases the students' willingness and ability to do well in their studies. They should also equip students with the skills necessary to successfully complete assessments they are given, as understanding…

Give them the ability to speak, we see teachers constantly blocking questions or not spending enough time on individual students as they have to help a whole classroom each week, so in the role of a tutor we need to make sure the student is able to freely communicate and have them do the question and ask them their though process throughout a…

The ultimate intention of tutoring, I believe, is to guide students to the point at which they can become independent learners and like tutors, teach other students. Therefore, the most important things a tutor can do to help the student reach this goal is personalise the learning and teach to the student's strengths, meanwhile minimising their…

Inside ClydeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Keerat focused on algebra by practising substitution and working through exercises on simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination methods.

Year 9 student Mary revised linear relations, summarising key concepts for an upcoming test and drawing graphs to consolidate understanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student worked on fractions—reviewing equivalence and practising addition and subtraction with different denominators—to strengthen foundational skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student showed a pattern of skipping written working in algebra and probability, as noted: "she had marked as correct but hadn't actually asked if it made sense or checked the answers carefully." This led to repeated errors going unnoticed until feedback was given, resulting in lost marks on tests.

In Year 7 maths, another student completed revision only for school requirements but left some assigned practice unfinished—extra English work took priority.

During essay writing in Year 9, informal structure persisted; despite reminders, arguments weren't clearly set up, making ideas harder to follow when drafting under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

A Clyde tutor noticed that a Year 9 student who used to wait for hints now brings her own questions to each session, having completed all her revision independently.

In senior maths, one student previously lost marks by skipping written steps but has started showing every part of her working, which led to fewer errors in her latest trigonometry set.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 learner who struggled with fractions last term surprised his tutor this week by quickly adding and simplifying fractions with different denominators—he even asked for some harder extension problems at the end of the lesson.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Just wanted to let you know that Mark seems like a good match for Nik. He really likes him and had a really successful first session. Thanks for your support and assistance in finding him!

Bre says she is happy with Ameya. He explains things well and ensures she understands things before moving on. Only week 3 but all good so far.

Hayden is starting to feel more confident with his maths, so we think 10 weeks more tutoring should cover all bases for now, and a few weeks towards the end of the school before the final exams should do wonders for his results. Thankyou.....

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Clyde Primary School.
