Most important things I would say would be to be encouraging and prepared. As I said students can feel discouraged sometimes, so I think being positive and patient so that they can have an open mind and have some resilience when content is hard is crucial. As a tutor I think one of my biggest strengths is that I am a student as well and have…

The most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to adapt to their learning style and to be supportive. Not every student can be taught using the same plan, and it is necessary to change when needed so that a student can be successful. If a student needs a range of scenarios so that they can clearly understand the topic, it…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to listen to them carefully and attentively showing all engagement towards the student. This allows the tutor to understand what is difficult and what is easier for the student and at the same time displays to the student that the tutor cares and wants to better the student's life.…

I believe that the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to always be there for them. As teachers/tutors, it is not all about educating them in core subjects but being there for them through rough times. We have all experienced what it is like to be a student and sometimes they go through some difficult situations and I…

Help them to actually learn the subject matter, and to help them want to learn. Having someone genuinely willing to spend time and effort to help you learn something is valuable when you're struggling, so if an english tutor can do that for a student, wonderful things could happen. I believe that tutoring for a student should be a safe zone space where they can make mistakes. Tutoring does not have the same pressue for a student that school can, as such it is important for an english tutor to be patient and adaptive when a student is struggling with a concept. A tutor should welcome mistakes as an opportunity to grow. I also…

Inside Collingwood ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Summer focused on BODMAS with an emphasis on how brackets change the order of operations, and explored spatial patterns through targeted questions from her maths book.

In Year 8, Emily tackled ratios, rates, gradients and straight lines, including conversions between fractions, decimals and percentages.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Max worked on applying index laws in algebra as well as finding the highest common factor (HCF) and lowest common multiple (LCM) using real examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student's tendency to skip double-checking spelling and handwriting in English led to repeated errors, as one tutor noted, "small mistakes around spelling and handwriting kept recurring."

In Year 11 maths, a student hesitated to answer independently, often relying on confirmation rather than trusting their own process.

For a Year 3 reader, frustration arose when unfamiliar words were replaced with similar ones instead of being decoded—writing the word while saying it aloud sometimes helped regain focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student struggled to maintain attention during maths explanations, which meant concepts had to be retaught before any progress was made.

Recent Achievements

A Collingwood Park tutor noticed that one high school student, who previously found poetry analysis daunting, was able to clearly identify which poetic techniques she understood and pinpoint those needing more work—showing real self-awareness that hadn't been there before.

Another secondary student who struggled with applying the Pythagorean theorem managed to complete several related problems independently by the end of the session.

In a younger group, Zebediah used to guess at unfamiliar words but now patiently sounds them out and openly points out which ones he doesn't know, helping direct each lesson's focus.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Laura has definitely gotten Diana to a great start. She eagerly anticipates her tutoring  and is seeming to take more  interest in Maths especially in the strands that she did not feel very confident about. Diana has told me that Laura's  explanations are easily understood and is simplified which makes it easy to remember. She also explains various strategies that can be used for problem solving which is good for time management when attempting to solve problems in class. Diana is able to use the notes taken during tutoring in class which is assisting with her understanding of the relevant strand or concept.

Things are going really well.  Emily is a lovely young woman who has engaged well with my daughter.  Tia feels comfortable with her and is learning new skills.  It is great. Thanks once again for such wonderful service and professionalism.  It is such a change to receive follow up and genuine interest in the service provided .  Your company is to be commended!!

We asked for assistance on a short term basis to help with some exam preparation.  Our tutor was quickly able to assess our daughter's capability and provide practical assistance with problem solving and techniques. Most importantly the tutor instilled real confidence in our daughter's ability, offering encouragement, support and reinforcement all the way.  We would not hesitate to contact Ezy Math for our future needs.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Redbank Plaza Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Collingwood Park State School.
