Tutors have two roles, One is to actively support the student who might be struggling to cope up with their peers and/or looking to improve their performance. The second is to make the student learn in a different environment from their school. Schools have multiple children and every child has some issue they are facing. As an economics tutor…

Amidst the competitive pressure of institutions on this generation's children, one of the vital things an economics tutor can do for a fellow student is to provide a safe space for them to be able to express themselves, i.e allowing them to ask questions and understand the weaknesses of their students. That way they will be enthusiastic to learn…

I think the most important things an economics tutor should do for a student is to encourage the student to do better rather than to aim for perfect grades. Every improvement, regardless of the extent, is an improvement and it should be appreciated. A tutor should also prepare for the lessons before hand and have a lesson goal/outline to keep on…

Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. Inside CoolbiniaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Olivia worked on calculating area of various shapes and finding equivalent fractions using diagrams.

In Year 8, Ben focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions, as well as converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages through targeted exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Zoe practiced solving equations involving rational and irrational numbers and reinforced her understanding of index laws with mixed review questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student repeatedly avoided error-checking in algebra tasks—"back checking to make sure she hasn't made an error" was missing, leading to small mistakes carrying through final answers.

In Year 10 Chemistry, revision focused only on recent material; older test topics were left unreviewed, which meant key terms from last year ("just going over last year's definitions and concepts") were forgotten during practice questions.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student hesitated to attempt challenging maths word problems when unsure of vocabulary like "discount," often leaving these blank rather than risk a wrong answer. Confidence dropped after errors, slowing progress mid-session.

Recent Achievements

One Coolbinia tutor recently saw a Year 10 student, Abbey, begin to tackle tricky chemistry formulas with far less hesitation—by the end of the session, she was confidently using new notation that had previously tripped her up.

In Year 8 maths, Piper started pointing out her own errors before the tutor noticed them and now asks clarifying questions instead of staying silent when unsure, which is a real shift from her earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, in primary years, Jacinta wrote a much more detailed body paragraph for her recount assignment than she managed last term.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Dakshi has been a wonderful tutor and if she is available next year we would love to have her back.

My tutoring is going great, Rory is awesome and I'm very happy with the way things are going. Feeling so much better about my maths already.

We are very happy with the tutoring and our tutor is very good with my children. They are really enjoying it and this speaks volumes as they were both very opposed to the idea!

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dianella Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Coolbinia Primary School.
