Always receive feedback from the student, ask the student if they are understanding and explain in their own words any concepts we learned at the end of the session. Ask the student any questions they have. Provide notes/examples step by step so that the student can learn and ask any questions about why that is so. Always be there to support the…

Become a role model and help inspire them to become the best version of themselves. I want to be someone who can help them expand their horizon for learning. And understand that maths and science isn't their enemy. Studying isn't their enemy. I feel what's most important is being an educator not a grader. Patience, and repetition, never…

The most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure the student understands what they are learning and that they are able to apply the knowledge that they have acquired, from the tutor, in order to solve all problems and questions. The tutor should be able to instil confidence into the student's mind regarding different ideas and concepts. My…

Believing in the students is the most important thing a tutor can do for their student. Some students may not believe in themselves and will need an extra boost or encouragement to believe they can do it as every student has the potential to do well. It all depends in the amount of motivation they have and how willing they are to put in the…

I believe a tutor is a person who is there to support, guide and encourage students to not just settle for an easy answer but question and discover new things. I believe tutors should allow students to embrace their mistakes and learn from them, and use their failures as experiences. I try different methods with students who are unable to grasp a…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is make him/her confident in their own abilities. Children tend to lose confidence in themselves if they achieve low grades, but I want to be able to teach kids in a way where they enjoy learning and also look forward to each session. I plan on doing this by incorporating relatable examples and…

Ultimately, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner Some of my greatest strengths are that I'm very energetic and patient. I lean on these…

The most important thing is to be patient and understanding of the student. I believe that in order to teach efficiently, those two core values must be practiced first for the student to truly engage and advance in the learning material. Contrastingly, in a practical sense, the most important thing we can do is to ensure the student understands…

I consider this to be the ability to adapt to a students needs and learning ability. Certain students may not understand concepts from the same method as everyone else. It's important to cater to each student and understand what their best form of learning is. To do this different styles of teaching can be implemented to see which ones each…

A tutor can listen to the student before giving advice or teaching. Listening is important as it allows a tutor to understand why the student may be having difficulties grasping subjects or topics and choose alternative strategies to help the student. Explaining a topic over and over again often doesn't work and a tutor needs to be open to hearing…

To give them time and their undivided attention and support. A tutor needs to be able to give the student room to grow, while nurturing them so they can learn in the way that is best for them. Tutor should raise the confidence level in students by giving each and every child a chance to speak and answer in the class whether online or on-campus. The most important thing or a challenge for a tutor is to involve a student in a subject not just for it's technicality but for its application in real life. Therefore it's important to find the bridge between what you study and real life in not all but most cases to keep studies interesting. If not, find a funny way or create a situation that…

Inside Cranbourne EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Arman focused on improving multiplication using box and lattice methods, then revisited addition and subtraction skills through targeted worksheets.

In Year 8, Mahima tackled simultaneous equations by learning both the substitution and elimination methods, alongside expanding and factorising algebraic expressions.

For Year 10, Jessica concentrated on drawing linear graphs by calculating gradients and intercepts, as well as applying index laws for multiplying and dividing indices with like bases.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 maths, messy or unclear written calculations led to confusion, especially when simplifying algebraic expressions—one tutor observed, "She needs to fix some of her maths layout, primarily on how she sets out her calculations."

A Year 10 student hesitated to ask for help with difficult worded problems and spent too long worrying about unfamiliar concepts, which slowed progress.

In senior years, a lack of double-checking persisted in probability and indices work; mistakes often went unnoticed because answers weren't reviewed.

When homework was incomplete in Year 7 algebra tasks, earlier gaps in times tables knowledge remained unaddressed.

Recent Achievements

One Cranbourne East tutoring session saw a Year 10 student finally stop needing the tutor's approval after every algebra step; she now checks her own work and only asks for feedback at the end, a big change from before when she needed reassurance throughout.

A high schooler who used to get stuck on index laws now completes homework independently and has improved her maths layout significantly.

In Year 5, one student who was hesitant about long division is starting to write out each step methodically, even converting remainders into fractions—a habit he hadn't tried before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cranbourne Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Cranbourne East Primary School.
