Children are capable of success in anything they dedicate themselves to as long as they have the right help and I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is provide this help. Motivating and encouraging the student develops their confidence which heightens their ability to learn and improve. Listening to the student…

Having empathy, because not all content comes too easy for students as it does for us, obviously. Having patience, because it can be frustrating if a tutor just expects a student to "get it" immediately. Being kind. This seems obvious but you may be surprised the number of teachers I've had and met who are not kind, and they are extremely hard…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build their confidence, provide clear and personalized explanations, and foster a supportive learning environment. A tutor should help students develop problem-solving skills, encourage them to ask questions, and guide them to become independent learners who can approach challenges with…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is build their confidence while also making sure they don’t develop resentment toward the content. By adapting to their learning style and keeping things engaging, a tutor can help students see the value in what they’re learning. When students start to enjoy the subject, they’re…

I think I have answered it in the last question. Again it is all about answering students' questions and privide them their perfirmance feedback. As a tutor when I see my students improvement I always follow these strategies : Constructive feedback, encouraging, engaging and building relationship with the students, always be flexible and be…

What I consider to be the most important things a tutor can do for a student are build self-confidence, without this they will not believe in themselves and their ability, and therefore will not make the improvements they are capable of, inspire them to create their own goals, both long-term and short term, big and small, and of course, help…

The most important things as a tutor is avoid giving shortcuts to the students. If a student is struggling with a problem, I will let them think first, guide them with small things with only giving slight hints, and help them slowly reach to the answer themselves. Instead of just giving the formula or answers, I focus on helping them understand…

Listen. I think it's important to understand the current knowledge a student has and to be aware of what their goals are. I think each student has a different learning style. By listening I know how best to tutor in a way that is specific and beneficial for them. I am a good communicator and excellent at listening to the needs of my students. I am…

A tutor can make the student love to learn new things. A tutor can make life easier for a student by showing him/her that acquiring knowledge is very beneficial and important for prospering in life later on. I can explain my ideas in a really easy way. I am very patient as I can repeat the lesson several times until the student understands. I have…

In my opinion, the key thing to teach a student is independence. The more I can help a student become independent in their study, the better stead they'll be in for exams, revision and further education, as a passion for learning the material by your own merit is the key for future success. If I can pass on the passion I have for maths, teach my…

Personally, I believe that tutors play the most crucial role in facilitating a nurturing and interactive learning space, catering their teachings to the student's individual requirements, and offering personalized help, guidance and feedback too. This can be done in a tutor session to allow for students to feel at ease, speak freely, and ask…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student involve making the student understand the concepts at a deep level, rather than tutoring them solely for the purpose of achieving higher grades. I believe a good tutor should remove the fear of a subject, if any, from a student's mind and encourage them to learn in more detail, while providing…

I think the most important thing for a tutor is to be a reliable guide to the students. Every students has their own way of learning and pace of learning. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give them the confidence and strategies to tackle problems even when you, as a tutor, are not there. I believe a tutor can impact student's lives by providing the foundation he needs for further studies. A student with a poor concept might some how pass but he will struggle in the future, or looses interest in that subject. Hence a tutor can strengthen that foundation, at the same time be a source of motivation and a be a big brother. My main…

To find the weaknesses of each and every individual students and come up with different strategies to help them learn. I also believe a tutor should be patient and repeats themselves if necessary. I believe that a tutor must be able to provide the students with what they need. This means assessing the student's abilities and determining key weaknesses. Since not all students are the same, a successful tutor must be able to decide strategies that are suited for each individual student. I am adaptable and resourceful, so I can adjust myself…

Inside CroydonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Artira worked through English comprehension skills and tackled **selective test-style maths questions**, including one general ability question by request.

In Year 9, Jack focused on **financial maths concepts such as calculating interest** and practiced finding areas and volumes of different shapes.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Lily developed her understanding of **coordinate geometry—plotting points and working with equations—then reinforced this knowledge by going through a practice test to address common mistakes**.

Recent Challenges

Messy or unclear written work has been a recurring barrier, particularly in Years 9–11 mathematics.

For example, one Year 10 student's algebra solutions were "hard to follow—working out can be more clear," leading to confusion when checking steps and masking small sign errors.

In Year 8 geometry, another student's rushed layout made it difficult to spot where angles should extend for geometric techniques.

Assigned homework was not always completed in Year 12, as noted: "Making sure to do assigned homework." This meant missed opportunities for targeted revision before assessments, leaving gaps in confidence on exam day.

Recent Achievements

One Croydon tutor noticed a Year 11 student who had been hesitant with interpreting statistical graphs now confidently calculates Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and interprets the line of best fit without prompting.

A Year 8 student, who previously struggled to structure comparative essays, is now independently planning arguments and recognising the differences between essay types—something she avoided before.

In Year 5, one student used to rush through maths problems but has begun setting out working line by line after learning how it helps catch mistakes; he finished his latest homework with only minor corrections needed.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Ashfield Municipal Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Presbyterian Ladies' College Sydney.
