I firmly believe that a tutor should not only share knowledge but also inspire a love for learning. Building a strong mentor-student relationship is crucial, nurturing an environment where questions are encouraged, and challenges are viewed as opportunities for growth. Also, tailoring teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, and…

For me, it is to be very patient and never stop giving encouragement. Cause everyone has different learning capabilities but it doesn't mean that because some can learn faster than others, doesn't mean they can no longer do it. We just have to be patient and make them believe in themselves. Patience. Critical Thinker. Problem Solver. Encouraging.…

Tutor can be a mentor not only of the academic but can be a mentor of other emotional and mental problems. Patience is the baby step to become an effective tutor. Some children might need patience levels that may put me through…

I think that the most important things that a tutor should have when teaching students is to dedicate as much Time as possible to the student in order to understand the tasks they are required to do. Patience is also another important thing to have as things take time. Dedication, not giving up on the student, everyone learns at their own…

Responsibility is the first word that comes to my mind. I come from Vietnam, and I have seen very few Australian students who require a tutor, comparing to Vietnamese students. If they hire a tutor, they must have a need to improve their academic performance. Hence, a tutor needs to be responsible for them to achieve a better result. I cannot…

A tutor needs to flexible and adapt to the way their students learn; some student require more visualisation to learn, while some require analogies, some may memorise the formula but never understands the concept, etc... Of course being able to teach and make the student understand the lesson. But understanding does not simply imply understanding just for the sake of passing the subject in the Uni, understanding the lesson means how the learning can be applied to practical experience or to day to day living. Touching the mind is tantamount to influencing a…

Encouragement. Learning something new can be hard. Things that do not come easily have the potential to discourage us, but the only way for anyone to fail is if they give up. I believe there are several things a tutor can deliver to her students, the primary of which is to instill a sense of confidence and can-do attitude among them. Inside Croydon ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ali practised converting between kilometres, metres, centimetres and millimetres, and began multiplying by 10s, 100s, and larger multiples through real-world word problems.

For Year 8, Emily focused on rearranging linear equations and inequalities, then moved into graphing linear equations using guided worksheet exercises.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Jacob revised index laws and scientific notation with a focus on applying rules to simplify expressions and convert between standard and scientific form.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student struggled to keep written work clear in algebra—notes mention, "she could consider spacing out her writing, which would help her see things clearer and avoid miscues."

In Year 9, a test was missed because the tutor wasn't told in advance, so support couldn't be provided.

For a younger student, incomplete homework ("Forgot to do her homework") meant less time practicing new concepts.

One senior learner found it hard to remember formulas under pressure; as described: "Finds difficulty remembering formulas that are needed for tests," leading to frustration when recalling methods during assessments.

Recent Achievements

A Croydon Park tutor recently saw a Year 10 student stop relying on guessing and start talking through her process out loud when stuck, which helped her break down worded questions faster than before.

In another session, a Year 8 student who used to rush through homework now takes the time to write each step and explain her reasoning, leading to fewer mistakes in classwork.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who struggled with identifying operations in word problems is now able to independently decide whether to use subtraction or multiplication and solve multi-step problems on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as The Parks Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Margaret Mary's School.
