If the tutor can recognise when the student does not understand, instead of moving on and the student now has a gap in their fundamental knowledge, the tutor can attempt to convey the knowledge in a style more suited to the student. I believe the most important thing a physics tutor can do is make the student feel capable. I believe that before improvement comes confidence, and once students believe they can succeed, real progress begins. A good tutor should listen, understand the challenges faced by students, and tailor lessons to their needs. It is also important to…

One of the best qualities of a physics tutor is to create a personal connection to your student. While tutoring classes in the past, I would encompass fun activities within the lesson in order to build an easy rapport with students in the beginning, making the student feel at ease, and comfortable, putting the student in a position in which he or…

I believe to explain a concept that the student can understand is paramount in the role of a physics tutor. For this to be done the student needs to comprehend the simple skills that leads up to the final difficult concept. If a tutor is able to explain this complex concept by explaining the simple skills and breaking down the concept in a simpler…

I believe that the most important thing a physics tutor can do for his/her students is to individualise the learning process. This means adapting to the individual's learning style, learning their strengths and weaknesses and tailoring the teaching style to cater for each, and keeping track of their progress. Instilling confidence in the student…

Inside CurrambineTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Mia worked through algebraic expressions and past test questions on area, using actual test papers to target problem-solving skills.

For a Year 9 student, lessons focused on trigonometry (including ratios and solving for unknown sides) as well as straight line graphs, often practicing with diagram-based examples.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student tackled equivalent fractions alongside addition and subtraction of mixed numbers and improper fractions, applying these concepts in real-world word problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 5 mathematics, one student repeatedly relied on a times tables chart and hesitated without it, showing that over-reliance on aids undermined her confidence in mental calculations.

As noted, "she lines up decimals well when focused, but loses track if distracted," revealing that lapses in focus directly affected accuracy during decimal work.

In Year 9 algebra, another student avoided revisiting past errors or reviewing missed steps; as one tutor put it, "she forgot how to convert improper fractions until prompted."

In senior trigonometry, messy working meant formulas were chosen incorrectly and key relationships were missed—resulting in extra time spent correcting avoidable slips instead of progressing.

Recent Achievements

One Currambine tutor noticed a Year 10 student who previously hesitated to ask for help now confidently requests clarification when stuck, instead of guessing—especially during trig problem-solving.

In another high school session, a Year 9 student started setting out their algebra working more clearly after struggling with layout before, which helped them spot and fix their own mistakes.

Meanwhile, a younger student in Year 4 has begun using the column method independently; last week she solved decimal money problems on her own and explained her thinking out loud as she worked.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Just thought I would let you know Wayne passed his HSC with flying colours and is off to university! THANK YOU! Your tutors did a FANTASTIC job! =)

Working with Ezy Math Tutoring is hands down, the best opportunity I could have done for my career and for myself. I started working with them while studying at university, and I found that tutoring was not only fulfilling and rewarding, but it helped me understand little things better, which in turn helped me with my work at uni. Having to teach material that I'd become so familiar with, to someone who wasn't, made me actually think about maths in much more depth. It also taught me patience, to problem solve, and how to explain a concept that I understand very well, to someone who didn't. Not to mention it was fantastic to get to know the kids, see them through school and celebrate their successes with them. After university, when interviewing for jobs to start my career, amid all my awards and achievements, the thing that impressed people the most was my tutoring experience. The most amazing thing is being able to see the difference in the students - not only in their marks but their confidence. It's incredible to know that you helped make that happen. Unfortunately I am unable to continue tutoring with Ezy Math Tutoring as I've started my career as a Software Test Analyst, and it's because of my tutoring experience that I was able to receive this amazing opportunity. Ezy Math Tutoring really has been the best experience, and I would definitely recommend working as a Tutor with them, or as a client.

Ezymath tutoring was a fantastic company to tutor for. They were extremely helpful in a number of situations and were always able to answer a question promptly. The way in which they kept on making sure I was continually trained was a success through the use of biweekly CEP. Overall, I am very happy with having tutored with Ezymath and would recommend anyone to choose them, as a tutor or a student

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Joondalup Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Currambine Primary School.
