A tutor should always be there to support a student throughout their academic journey by preparing them for examinations and more importantly teach them in a way to get them hooked into learning mathematics. Another vital role is to build confidence in a student by doing practice questions and papers. -I am an electrical engineering student…

Adapting to the student's learning style/preference (if the student is a visual learner, create pictures)/ If the student prefers a repetition of similar problem, create more problems for the students). This is very important as every student is different. I have experiences in classroom where I taught multiple students at once (Edu-kingdom)…

I believe the most important things that can be done for students are building their own self esteem as well as providing a conducive environment for their learning process. I consider the student's own eagerness and willingness to learn as the best driving forces to push themselves, and I wish to be the kind of tutor who can help instil those…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to support them through difficult times while confidently guiding their learning. By being someone the student can rely on, both emotionally and academically, a tutor helps the student stay motivated and willing to tackle challenging material. This steady support builds trust and confidence,…

A tutor can clearly identify the strengths and weaknesses of students and guide them accordingly. He should focus on the strengths and minimise their weaknesses. This is very important as it gives a clear direction to the students. This can also help them realise what career path would be good for them. A tutor should also be able to help students…

For me, the most important things a tutor can do for a student include helping through their academic struggles, but in a way which is reinforcing and allows the student to fully grasp a concept and find satisfaction in it. Moreover, a tutor should not only be able to explain and break down concepts to students, but also provide exam and study…

The most important thing I can do is continuously adapt to a student’s evolving learning needs. Students are at a crucial stage of cognitive development, and their understanding can shift from one lesson to the next. A tutor must assess their learning style in every session, adjusting explanations and approaches accordingly. What worked well in…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to guide them to understand concepts instead of giving them formulae to memorize or solutions to copy. Obviously, an important thing that a tutor can provide to their students is to support them academically. A tutor should be articulate about their workings, and master a great command over the topic. However, a tutor should also act as a mental support. They should act as an intermediary and acts as additional help if their students have…

I think the most important thing may be to identify the individual needs of the student. During my work as an educational-psychological advisor, I used to write detailed reports outlining the student's strengths, learning style, and goals. When this was followed up, it made a very positive impact on the student's learning outcomes. I believe that…

A tutor can help improve a student in academic success. In a classroom setting a teacher has to cover a specific amount of content within a particular time period, some students can pick up the content very easily while others may lag behind on the content. A tutor however solves this issue by understanding the student's strengths and weaknesses…

It is essential that the student feels comfortable learning, and as a tutor I think it is our job to achieve this. Not only should the student feel relaxed while in class, they should start to gain interest in what they are learning. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is being patient and slowly explaining concepts in an easier way in order to be able to fully explain concepts that can be easily understood. Inside DaceyvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Despina worked on understanding the area and volume of 2D and 3D shapes, along with practicing perimeter calculations.

Year 8 student Michael focused on simplifying algebraic expressions and applying the Pythagoras theorem to geometry problems, using visual examples for clarity.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sophia tackled chemistry syllabus content by reviewing electron configurations (spdf notation) and exploring trends in periodicity, including atomic radius and first ionisation energy.

Recent Challenges

Frequent reliance on calculators for basic operations, such as times tables and simple addition, made it harder for the Year 9 student to build fluency in index laws ("less use of calculator and a more thorough understanding and memorisation of times tables…").

In Year 11 Chemistry, incomplete memorization of polyatomic ions led to slower progress during ionic equation tasks.

For a Year 5 lesson, one student jumped quickly to answers without fully writing out working or reflecting on key phrases from questions, which meant missed details when reading texts.

During a senior selective-style test, another student struggled with time management and needed extra practice under timed conditions—she finished late and felt frustrated.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daceyville recently noticed a Year 10 student who, after struggling with algebra, began working through examples independently and now occasionally solves problems without prompting.

In another session, a Year 9 student showed new initiative by finishing a research task on her own, whereas before she needed frequent reminders to stay on track.

Meanwhile, one of the younger students has started reading out loud more confidently during comprehension activities and now actively eliminates incorrect answers instead of guessing.

Last week, a high schooler completed her science report on time for the first time this term.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lionel Bowen Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like St Michael's Catholic Primary School.
