Additionally, I would focus on students who are very weak in a particular subject and provides tips to improvise. I have good knowledge in Mathematics and I can explain the concepts using real life examples.…

I believe that teaching is not about pumping a student with exam papers or to make them memorise the answers and get good grades, for my satisfaction. But about really making sure the student understands a concept, so that they have a strong foundation and can apply to it many different question styles. This will actively stimulate creativity and…

Be kind and patient with them. Do not ever be the reason that they stop believing in their abilities. Encourage them to try and figure things out independently and then ask for help when needed. Be mindful so that students believe in themselves. I am kind and patient. I always remind myself that just because I know something does not mean…

I believe support and encouragement are the most important elements that me as a tutor can help my students. Some students do not like to be pushed, and they need time for themselves as well, so supporting and encouraging them will direct them towards success. Some other students may experience difficulties in study (do not get a good result), so…

Know your stuff. Always. As simple as it might sound, really bringing your students a reliable foundation of knowledge on the subject is always crucial. It doesn't mean that you ALWAYS have to know your stuff though, we are human, and human can sometimes afford not to know it all. This is when I would go on, do my research, and make sure the next…

Understand them and their learning habits. If a tutor does not understand their student, they can never excel at tutoring that student or almost anyone. Helping a student grow and evolve. Inside Daw ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Molly focused on subtraction with exchanging and practiced recalling 5x tables using concrete materials.

For Year 6, Ella worked through word problems involving multiplication and division and tackled NAPLAN practice questions to strengthen application skills.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Ava concentrated on decimals and fractions—comparing, ordering, and representing them on number lines—and began converting between percentages and fractions for a clearer understanding of relationships between forms.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was not focussed—had not been to school, two weeks holiday in New Zealand, which led to trouble recalling multiplication tables and keeping up with number work.

In Year 9, accessing homework on OneNote via iPad was inconsistent; this meant practice tasks were missed or incomplete before lessons.

For a senior student working through algebra, recognition of applied formulas was a challenge because steps weren't shown clearly—errors went unnoticed until revision.

A younger learner avoided writing mistakes by overusing the eraser, slowing progress and making it harder to review their thought process later.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Daw Park noticed some real turning points this week. One Year 10 student, who previously mixed up steps when solving algebraic equations, was able to recall BEDMAS rules and accurately solve problems with parentheses on her own.

In a Year 7 session, a student who often waited for prompts before tackling word problems is now choosing relevant facts independently and finishing worksheets without extra reminders.

For a younger learner in Year 4, there's been a shift from relying on aids for multiplication tables to confidently recalling them aloud during practice—she even volunteered to lead a quick-fire table round at the end of her session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mitcham Memorial Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Colonel Light Gardens Primary School.
