My ultimate goal as a tutor is not only to teach the content the students need to learn but also to teach them to love learning so that they realise it's not a chore they have to do but rather something amazing they GET to do for the rest of their lives, not just once school ends. By far my biggest strengths as a teacher is my passion. I am very…

Be someone a student feels comfortable with so they can ask any questions they need without feeling judged. It is also important that the tutor can, of course, answer questions, as well as provide strategies to help the student become a more independent learner in the future. I find it easy to breakdown a concept and explain each step of the way.…

in today's modern world, delivering the lecture is not sufficient, in fact, it is more important that students are getting the real picture of that idea or not, if not then tutor can change their method of delivery/teaching to make them understand. To me, one of the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to give the student confidence. When a student gains confidence that they can do it, they will be more willing to put effort and also do better in their examinations. I would say my strength as a tutor is to be able to get into the studnets's level and explain to them in a way…

A tutor is somebody who is most significantly; approachable. While a student can learn from a thousand different ways , a tutor is meant to expose them to those ways so that they achieve their goals. Keeping the deadlines in check, their is a responsibility to make sure that all of the essential learning is checked off the list to…

Give them confidence- either to have a crack at new questions or topics, or just continue to work and learn independently. Usually this is achieved by helping students find a way to enjoy the subject. I'm a good communicator and very empathetic. I believe the most important things a tutor can do are to explan or simply the difficult concepts in a manner the student understands, and to build their confidence while doing a problem in which they are likely to make mistakes and also teaching them how to be patient if they are unable to solve something and how to go on forward from that…

Adjusting their teaching style to suit the way that student learns. Sometimes, explaining the content for a long time will work, but most of the time it doesn't. Listening to a student is the most important action a tutor can take with a student. Inside DeagonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ava worked through representing data using frequency tables and histograms, as well as reviewing how to compare sets of data visually.

Year 9 student Ethan focused on ratios, rates, and percentages by solving real-life problems involving proportional reasoning and calculating discounts.

For Year 10, Chloe practiced simultaneous equations using substitution and elimination methods, then tackled straight line algebra concepts including gradient and y-intercept identification from equations.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often needed reminders to recall basic factors when simplifying ratios, leading to extra time spent on multi-step division instead of practicing efficient methods. "She'd divide by 4, then by 2, missing the quicker path," noted one tutor during ratio work.

In Year 11, another student repeatedly delayed assignment drafts, which meant there was little chance to clarify difficult sections or seek feedback before deadlines.

Meanwhile, a senior physics student did not submit a full draft for assessment; as a result, key concepts and data analysis remained incomplete when support was most needed.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Deagon noticed one Year 10 student who used to rush through maths problems is now backchecking her answers aloud, catching errors and explaining her reasoning—something she rarely attempted before.

In a recent high school session, Oscar demonstrated real initiative by identifying his own weak spots in algebra and actively applying feedback between lessons, which has led to noticeably more accurate solutions on practice exams.

Meanwhile, a younger student working on a cowshed reconstruction project figured out unknown dimensions independently for the first time, then confidently converted not-to-scale drawings into real measurements without needing hints.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Sandgate Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sandgate District State High School.
