To understand the goal that the student wants to achieve in a certain topic. To encourage them and to put less weight on their shoulders by making their school workload easier in an efficient manner. My strengths, I think, as a tutor are being able to communicate, as communication is key to being able to process the knowledge being…

The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to make the student interested in whatever subject they are learning. The best way to learn anything is to show genuine interest in that topic. Tutors should not only assist students in specific areas, they should also engage with the student in a manner that makes the student…

The most important thing is to prepare fully for each lesson. I believe that both the student's and the tutor's time are precious. If a session is not well planned and structured, students are likely to walk away confused but unlikely to seek further clarification. Although the teacher might have saved planning time, they have restrained students…

I believe the best tutors are more mentors than teachers. A tutor should make sure every student is comfortable to participate in the learning experience. Students and parents expect an economics tutor to deliver personalised attention and guidance. A tutor should be able to deliver such service. A good tutor would make learning easier by…

A great tutor does not only stay with students during lessons time but also being able to stay with them on their journey to achieve their goals. Inside DunlopTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Caledon worked on the fundamentals of geometry, deriving and applying formulas for volume and surface area of various prisms and spheres using diagrams.

In Year 10, Anise focused on differentiating compound functions with the chain rule and extended this to complex algebraic manipulation in more challenging problems.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Amit concentrated on his Digital Technology assignment, making edits based on feedback and starting to improve areas identified as needing development.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a recurring issue for a Year 9 student, who "hadn't finished the homework assigned last week" and then "forgot to do last week's homework again," limiting opportunities for independent practice and slowing progress on applying formulas.

In senior years, one Year 11 student frequently hesitated to write out algebraic working, which led to missed sign errors—"he struggled a little with the signs of the terms, remembering the plus and minus."

Another high schooler sometimes brought no example problems from class, making it harder to target revision; as noted: "the biggest issue this week was there was no new work."

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Dunlop recently noticed some strong learning shifts among high school students. Anise, in Year 12, went from struggling with logarithms to confidently identifying which log law to use—even handling complex, all-variable questions without prompting.

Caledon, a Year 10 student who used to hesitate on multi-step algebra problems, now solves them independently and can quickly recall techniques covered last term. He is solving multi-step problems alone, showing a clear leap in confidence and skill.

Meanwhile, Amit (Year 9) has begun structuring his essays more clearly and now drafts with far less hesitation than before; he recently completed a writing task with only minimal feedback needed.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

We started yesterday and Dylan and Erin both seemed happy and got along quite nicely.

Boris is great, Amy has relaxed a bit since the first night. She seems to be going well, and she was very happy with herself as last night they covered year 8 maths which made her feel clever!

I have found your entire service from the first contact professional and friendly and will recommend both your organisation and Andrew to anyone who requires a maths tutor. . As I said earlier, I found Andrew both  diligant and effective in the few sessions we were able to fit in. Jesse's main comment was that 'He makes everything so easy to understand' which is really what tutoring is about.
