the most important part an english tutor like me can do is encouraging students to believe in their abilities and providing positive reinforcement as they progress. Also, the gist of my 2 years of tutoring would be offering tailored teaching experience where adapting teaching methods to suit the student’s learning styles and needs and working on…

I believe following up with students is the best way to create accountability and instil a routine in them. Also, tutors who put in effort after hours, such as staying back to help or creating personalised tasks to target their weak areas, are critical for students to excel in their studies. As a previously tutored student, I can guarantee that…

The most important things an english tutor can do for a student is to build confidence and self-esteem. Often, people feel discouraged or left out when unable to keep up with their class. They become withdrawn and tend not to believe in their capabilities. By teaching a student challenging topics, I am simultaneously quelling all notions of…

As an english tutor, the highest priority to students to teach them to understand the motivations and purpose of study. Though understanding course content is important in its own right, I believe learning to learn, critical thinking, and structuring arguments are the skills that stick with the student past high school and into university and the…

I think the most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is collaboration. Being able to communicate, preparing early on and mapping out what the students require is essential to being a good tutor. I think my strength as a tutor would be due to my experience of doing the HSC and due to my flexibility as a student in the University…

I believe it is important for an english tutor to provide a wide range of examples for students to be able to grasp certain concepts. Furthermore, applications in the real world of the various concepts the students are learning are incredibly valuable, as it gives them a greater sense of purpose, knowing well what they are studying is not just to…

I think having confidence in their thought process. Some children know the concept but don't have the confidence in their skills to apply it because they are scared of getting it wrong. I would like to praise Suraj for all the wonderful help he has given Drew.

Inside EastlakesTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Regan worked on mastering probability concepts, including calculating probabilities and practicing with targeted homework for an upcoming test.

In Year 10, Sara explored creative writing through character development and plot structure, then shifted to planning a discursive presentation by mapping out weekly goals and selecting suitable texts.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 student tackled advanced calculus topics such as integration and the application of differentiation, focusing on solving optimisation problems using worked examples.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 English, a student's creative writing lacked depth in characterisation—characters felt one-dimensional, limiting the emotional impact of her stories.

For a Year 12 essay, missing or incomplete homework meant feedback on textual analysis and flow could not be provided, delaying improvement. As noted by one tutor: "Homework was sent however was not completed. For feedback and improvement it is extremely crucial she finishes homework."

Meanwhile, a senior maths student struggled to select appropriate formulas in new topics; this confusion often arose when revision focused only on familiar question types rather than broadening problem-solving skills for exams.

Recent Achievements

One Eastlakes tutor noticed a Year 11 student who started the term hesitant to ask questions is now actively seeking clarification on tricky essay topics, even challenging interpretations and linking themes independently—something he'd avoided before.

In another session, a high school maths student who was unsure about maxima and minima at first worked through practice HSC-style problems until she could solve them confidently on her own.

Meanwhile, a younger student recently began writing down feedback after lessons without being prompted and asked for extra practice questions to improve—a big shift from previously staying quiet during reviews.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I am very happy with Rachel. She is very professional and her and Samantha have developed a good working relationship. Samantha has expressed to me that Rachel explains things really well and now she is understanding concepts she hadn't previously.

As you say it is hard to gauge the impact this early, however they seem to have a few laughs and Steve has said Jack is a lot faster in his response time. So that's progress considering Jack's willingness to begin extra learning was very poor. It didn't take more than 2 lessons for that to change. To date we are happy and are glad we didn't leave it any later, as it it the beginning of term I'm sure i will be getting feedback from Jack's teacher through the term on his improvement.I look forward to that. We want him to enjoy all lessons not dread the thought of attending classes. So far so good, Steve seems like a great match.

I just wanted to let you know how very happy we are with Tianna's tutor, Josephine. Josephine is so bubbly, easy going, very patient and great at teaching Maths and making it fun to learn.   Tianna is quite taken with Josephine, has built a great rapport with her and has made huge progress with her algebra in the short while Josephine has been tutoring her. Josephine is definitely a great asset to your company and we are so happy she is Tianna's tutor

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mascot Library (incl. the George Hanna Memorial Museum)—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eastlakes Public School.
