My approach is to first teach the student the concept in the topic area. Then show the student with examples with increasing difficulty. Finally give questions for the student to solve alone by providing some time to think and answer alone. Then guide the student with correct (if answered wrong) and efficient (time saving strategies) methods to…

I think a tutor needs to be able to create that working relationship with a student, to show them how fun learning can be. When shown how interesting these things can be, students become much more motivated to engage and learn, and the 1-on-1 support that tutoring provides gives these children the tools they need to excel. I have 18 months of…

I think that a tutor should be able to meet the individual needs of a student and present the content in an easily understandable format for them especially in the field of mathematics where there are often multiple pathways to achieving an answer. My strengths as a tutor come from me being a good listener and a dedicated person who will work…

Whether it is administer examination, discussion or assessment a tutor should gather adequate information to verify their student's needs to create an individual approach for their learning. I am…

I believe that it is important for a tutor to be someone that can be there for a student when they need help emotionally, as well as academically. For many, being there for someone emotionally can be as simple as not knowing about their personal lives and just being there purely to help, while some students, I have found, need to talk about…

First thing which I can assure to all my students is that I'll make them understand the concepts clear so that they can remember and apply it forever in their life. Also I think a good teacher has to teach the subject from a student point of view, so that we can understand where they face problem in understanding the concept and help them to…

I think a tutor is like a life coach for a student. A tutor has the power to shape the life of a student. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make the student believe in himself. The things I consider most important for tutors are clarity, confidence, and independence. Clear explanations can turn topics that a student might shy away from into smaller ideas that they can relate to and therefore understand. Confidence grows when you celebrate small wins and frame mistakes as part of the learning process. Afterwards,…

A tutor can make a student stress free by making learning so easy and interesting , that a student enjoy learning rather than running away from it. And obviously achieve good grades. I can make a boring subject interesting to any student as I make use of properties and imagination to teach the topics and make learning a 'fun learning'. I…

Ultimately, a tutor is an additional source of help on top of schooling. The reason students look for this external assitance is due to traditional teaching methods being subpar. To be patient with the student. Some students take time to process new concepts compared to the others. That doesn’t mean they can’t be good at it. Patience and confidence would be my answer. I believe that the most essential things a tutor can do for a student are to boost their confidence, promote a true grasp of the subject, and provide a secure, supportive environment in which they can ask questions and make errors. Ethan is thoroughly enjoying his session with Ivana. The confidence and positive way he approaches the work, I credit to the way Ivana relates to him. She is engaging and positive. We appreciate all your hard work!!
Natalie, Eltham

Inside Eltham NorthTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Jacob worked on surds and measurement problems, focusing on simplifying radicals and solving area questions.

In Year 10, Callum tackled probability using Venn diagrams and notation, as well as reviewed key class notes to strengthen understanding.

For Year 12, Sarah practiced challenging calculus integration questions from recent exam papers and revised applications of absolute value functions with graph transformations.

Recent Challenges

In Year 11 Maths Methods, motivation and discipline dropped recently; as noted, "he's quite far behind class, although he's sure he can catch up." This led to incomplete homework and less effective review of hard questions.

A Year 9 student struggled with algebra practice (scoring 58%) but didn't spend time finding and fixing mistakes independently—missed opportunities for growth.

For a senior Further Maths student, notes lacked depth: "Writing notes—doesn't include thoughts or tips," so reviewing past exams felt unfamiliar despite decent summaries. When materials weren't organized, extra time was lost searching for concepts rather than strengthening understanding.

Recent Achievements

One Eltham North tutor noticed Otis, a senior student, taking real ownership of his learning—he's now making detailed notes on tricky exam questions he once avoided and using them independently when tackling similar problems.

In Year 10 maths, another student who previously hesitated to ask for help began openly discussing where he got stuck with simultaneous equations, leading him to annotate his working more carefully and finish most questions without outside prompts.

Meanwhile, a younger learner who struggled to complete homework on time managed to review almost every exam topic ahead of schedule this week and fixed mistakes from past assignments without reminders.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Once again I really appreciate your help over the last few months. The structured format that EzyMaths brings to tutoring appears to provide a clear framework and guidelines for the tutors to work within. Combined with a really outstanding young tutor in Calvin this has had been very beneficial for Dom. I congratulate you on a great model and wish the business success for the future.

Shay is really enjoying the tutoring and Ben is a great tutor.  She is already improving in her maths, which was the objective.  Shay even does her extra math homework without argument which is amazing .  We look forward to working with Ben for the rest of this term and next year.

I would like to inform you that Paul did his last session with Vik on Sunday 11.Nov 2012. I have to mention that he did a fantastic job of teaching Vik the two subjects maths & physics, and also helping him understand how VCE works. Thank You for keeping me well informed about my son's progress. I would have no hesitation to recommend you & Paul to any of my friends or anyone who needs help from a tutor. Wishing you all the best in the future.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Eltham Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Eltham North Primary School.
