Science Tutor Booker Bay, NSW
Implement creativity and a willingness to try is the most important skill a tutor can pass on to their students. Once a student builds a willingness to try and a need to challenge themselves, they will be more likely to build good habits and routines around creating these pathways for themselves. I always ask myself 'how do students learn' and…

Be present and engaged in each lesson and ensure they thoroughly understand each topic before moving on. I would say my main strengths are patience and communication. When it comes to breaking down questions, it helps to work through things slowly and ensure understanding at each…

I think that whilst having adaptive teaching methods is important, ensuring the student constantly feels supported and motivated by the tutor is vital. For me, in school no matter how much I was struggling (especially in maths) I found that having a great, understanding teacher, allowed me to not be afraid of asking ‘stupid’ questions. So for…

I believe that tutors should provide all-round mentorship to students and that this is one of the most important things that can come of tutoring; helping them to feel more confident in approaching problems they have in their everyday lives and to search for the answers to the questions that they have about the world around them. I am very patient…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is show genuine care for the student's learning. Additionally, having a passion for teaching is vital, because with no passion and care, the tutoring interactions with the student are inauthentic. My greatest strength as a tutor is being able to change the way I explain a concept so…

A tutor's most important role, in my opinion, is using their passion for a subject to provide the student with confidence in the subject, and even inspiring this same passion in the student if it is not already there. I have 5+ years of teaching experience as a martial arts instructor, I am passionate about and skilled at the subjects I would like…

The most important thing a tutor can do is give a student the confidence to continue to achieve and learn for themselves. If they can believe in themselves and keep working, they will succeed regardless of their level. I am personable and easy-going, able to meet the student where they need to be met. I have a genuine passion for mathematics and…

Inside Empire BayTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Zac focused on dividing fractions and multiplying mixed fractions, using step-by-step examples to strengthen understanding.

For Year 8, Jasmine worked through finding unknown angles in right-angled triangles with Pythagoras' theorem and SOHCAHTOA, applying these methods to her homework problems.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Ben tackled rearranging formulae to change the subject and practiced substituting values into equations for homework assignments, consolidating his algebra skills.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student arrived to the lesson without his notes or workbook, making targeted revision difficult; as noted, "he left his notes and school work book at school so he didn't have any guidelines for revision."

In a senior session on trigonometry and equations, one student relied heavily on mental calculations but sometimes omitted working out, especially when rearranging SOHCAHTOA formulas—errors with signs slipped through unnoticed.

Meanwhile, a primary student hesitated to attempt unfamiliar worded money problems until encouraged to draw diagrams.

When homework was set for clock models, it was not always completed, which slowed concept recap in later lessons.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Empire Bay recently noticed a Year 10 student who used to struggle with rearranging algebraic formulas now confidently solves for unknowns and even explains his reasoning aloud without prompting.

Another high schooler, previously hesitant to speak up, began actively asking questions during lessons and completed all assigned graphing problems using his calculator independently—something he'd never attempted solo before.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at worded money questions started drawing currency diagrams unprompted to check her answers, then finished her set of addition and subtraction problems without any errors.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

The tutoring seems to be going very well so far. We have been working on the areas Mohamed has indicated Charlotte needs extra help with and his report was very helpful in this regard.

Leon has made some extreme improvement over this Term. In the last 3 weeks he has achieved 5th and 2nd!!! in the class mathematics tests. This has improved his confidence immensely and he shows more enthusiasm in his tutoring sessions. Very happy with Jordan.

We are very happy with how things are going with Sam - he is great at explaining concepts and Ruby seems to be responding positively to his style of coaching.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Umina Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Empire Bay Public School.
