Help him get to ease with the course, make it not feel like a burden but something the pupil has control over, allow him to see his strengths and focus on the knowledge he is gaining from it, and how he can benefit from it. Algebra is useful in so many fields but kids don't understand that thus don't pay attention, and learn it just to forget…

To me the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to build confidence in them. A tutor can help a student in developing confidence, bringing their inner strength out, overcoming their secret fear, injecting good morals for future life. As a tutor I am always dedicated, understanding, reliable and open to students. I like to involve…

Definitely being open to questions and helping them work through any issues and problems that they have. I think also just being able to explain concepts in a simple manner, so that when built upon, they have a stronger foundation to work with. I believe taking time out to understand and know where the student needs help or is struggling is the most important factor. By finding out the parts that they may lack and need improvement is what allows a tutor to focus on teaching the student in a more individualised and specific to the student. I think my strengths as a tutor belong to the…

A tutor should be able to understand the needs for a student and cater according to their needs. I believe it is important to understand that every student is unique and understanding that uniqueness will create a comfortable environment for them. Following the same structure for each of your students is not beneficial for their learning, but…

I consider the most important that a tutor can do is able to do is simply a topic or break down said topic into digestible portions such that the student is able to catch onto the content of the work easily and effectively. With a good understanding of the topic and the skills to explain its contents to the student, the tutor ensures that the…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student is to personalise the learning to suit the student's strengths, to work on their weaknesses but highlight strong points to instil confidence. A tutor must treat the student as an individual and listen carefully rather than just applying the same format for each student. Through a combination…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for their students is be a source of reliable collaboration. I believe a tutor is more than an instructor, in the sense that the job involves more than reciting knowledge. It allows you to work with students to supplement their learning, and have them come to you in times of difficulty. Hence, I…

A tutor should be a guide to students. A tutor inherently molds young minds. But most importantly, a tutor should never lose hope on any student. I think these are the most important for a tutor. I think its important to be resilient, empathetic and kind. I believe that every student is different, whilst some may grasp subjects easily,…

Support. Providing a great amount of support and motivation is crucial for a student’s education path. Without this, a lack of drive would occur which is detrimental to their learning, ultimately affecting their peers around them which acts like the domino effect. One of the most important things that a tutor can do for a student is understanding and respecting them. So, tutors constantly need to actively listen to students and ask whether students have any doubt regarding the concept. Not all students understand concepts taught in the same manner, hence, tutors need to find innovative teaching methods…

I think its important that tutors are invested in helping students learn to the best of their ability-listen-understand different questions that a student may have and try to create a sort of path that directs them towards understanding a concept (i think this is important because it helps them realise that they've got what it takes) I'm quite at…

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to become their friend. Children are sometimes uncomfortable with teachers and are unable to fully explain where they struggle. However, if we are able to get them to open up we would be able to better assist them in improving their grades. A student who is comfortable in the…

Inside Erskine ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Zahra explored algebraic techniques and applied probability concepts to real-world scenarios.

For Year 9, Daniel worked through the Pythagoras Theorem using practice questions and revised key measurement skills for an upcoming exam.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Sarah focused on advanced physics topics, including Einstein's postulates of relativity and time dilation, along with practice on length contraction problems.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student working on HSC-style questions struggled to link new theory to previous content, often skipping over detailed written solutions. As a tutor observed, "he needs a little bit of work in terms of learning how to formulate and write well written solutions to a problem."

In Year 8 algebra, forgetting older concepts meant repeated errors when collecting like terms, making revision less effective.

Meanwhile, a Year 6 student hesitated to show her working due to shyness—this made it tough for her (and the tutor) to find and fix mistakes during multi-step problems. When feedback was offered, she rarely responded directly in writing; the silence lingered between attempts.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Erskine Park recently noticed a Year 12 student who had struggled with HSC exam questions now tackling them more independently and even choosing to attempt the harder ones first—something he avoided before.

In a Year 8 maths session, another student who previously needed constant reminders for basic concepts was able to recall key formulas and complete surface area problems with only minor calculator errors.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student showed real growth by sounding out vowels and identifying rhyming words without prompting, finishing her reading task out loud on her own for the first time.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

All going well so far. We feel confident that it will help with Emily's confidence.

The sessions are going well. My daughters have responded well to Abed. He is warm and encouraging.

Austin must be a great teacher. Got Anthony to even find it important to do homework in math.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as St Clair Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Erskine Park High School.
