Helping the student gain confidence! The biggest obstacle for a student struggling with a subject is because they are lacking confidence in themselves. I am very patient, as I have worked with students of all levels and backgrounds. I am able to adapt very quickly to the students needs and how they learn. I am flexible with my…

The most important thing to keep in mind when tutoring in my opinion is to help them gain confidence & enjoyment in the subject. If a student believes they are bad at a subject, they often won't try as hard because they view it as pointless. Confirmation bias can also lead to only noticing when they make mistakes, meaning they won't recognise the…

Being a tutor means that I need to ensure what I communicate really reach students. Even if my teaching plan for students are well-planned, poor communication would be counter-productive because students not understand what I want to say. - Communication and interpersonal skills - Patience - Analytic skill - Time management…

The most important thing apart from helping the student understand that they can solve things on their own, is teaching the student how to study the subject. This way, the student will gradually understand how learning the subject works. I have a lot of patience and I am very good at using logistics. I can explain the same thing in many different…

I consider one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is build their confidence. Once this is established and the student has faith in their own abilities, the tutor is able to guide and facilitate their learning as a pose to simply instruct. The role of the tutor is to recognise what the student is capable of doing on their own…

The most important thing a tutor can do is create a safe and supportive space where the student feels comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Building trust is key. A tutor should also help the student develop independent learning strategies, so they feel empowered to tackle challenges on their own over time. It's not just about…

From what I have seen, I would say a tutor has to instill love for learning and build a strong foundation for students. I was not good at maths and it was cruical to foster my academic growth without any support. Fortunately, I had a great tutor to nurture my confidence, motivation, and self-believe to enhance my love for learning, in addition to…

I believe the most important thing for a tutor is to listen to and understand their student's weaknesses and strengths. Often I find many people lack personalisation and simply follow the curriculum. I like to take a different approach where I really personalise my teaching depending on the student's capabilities and learning style. I also find…

Be accommodating and accepting of the fact that all students are not the same. Tutors need to equip themselves with multiple strategies, examples and methods to explain to all different kinds of students. I am very patient and resilient in everything I do, including teaching. I have taught students who are child like in their 8th grade up to…

Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. A successful tutors build strong, personal relationships with their students. When tutors focus on goal setting, creating benchmarks and planning backwards, this sets students up for academic progress. When a tutor listens and…

The most important thing a tutor can impart to her/his student is the ability to motivate. Motivation instills a passion, may it be for the subject taught or the anything beyond school hours, it gives the student a sense of purpose and drives the student to be ambitious. Once a student tells themselves that 'they can do it', there are innumerable…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with the tools to be able to confidently work through academic problems on their own. In an English context this can mean teaching a student how to deconstruct what is required by a question, or giving them the skills to analyse a text for thematic and technical…

The most important thing tutoring did for me was providing a deeper understanding of complicated topics that were hard to grasp. It is also important to be someone that the student feels comfortable coming to with help. So by showing understanding and appreciation for their effort, a student doesn't feel concerned for getting an answer wrong of…

The most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to support them along their learning journey. Learning is not a linear experience and it does take a lot of patience, time, and effort, and as a tutor, it is important to guide and support their student throughout the journey. It is also important to be a mentor and someone that the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do would be to be patient, and to cater for each specific student. If a tutor is unable to adapt to each student, the purpose of one-on-one tutoring is nullified. I think I am good at adapting my teaching approach depending on the specific student, and explaining things in multiple different ways…

Help them to gain back their confidence. I mean from primary to middle school or even high school, the curriculum might be hard but not that hard that students could not pass it. I believe any students are capable of finishing high school with a decent grade. Most students I met were just getting distracted, or not spending their time enough on…

The most important thing of a tutor is the ability to impart knowledge in a suitable, correct and effective way to the students. Secondly, I have high patience and am…

I think the most important thing is to understand the student's cognitive ability and be able to relate to their world. Giving them examples using whatever they're into, for example, cartoons/video games, in order to teach a concept goes a long way. There isn't a bible when it comes to teaching, it's an evolving process, which gets better over…

The best thing a tutor can do to for a student is to get the student interested in the subject so that s/he will be able to not only excel at tests and quizzes in school but also pursue it further. Leveling yourself to their level, because if you use words or examples that they understand, you can see the excitement and joy on their faces, to now appreciate the subject you're teaching. Empathetic and patient. I love teaching kids who are curious and creative. I can feel that they are trying their best to learn. You just have to be patient…

My first lesson with bavadharini was awesome (even my mum was impressed)! It took a test run to get here but I couldn't be more pleased with this system! I look forward to our future lessons together :)

Inside FlemingtonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Alice worked on calculating mean, median, mode, and range in statistics as well as identifying angles with symmetry using visual examples.

In Year 9, Bita practised solving linear equations and worked through a worksheet on mean, median and mode provided by her teacher.

For Year 10, Laura focused on revising algebra and graphing techniques from the Year 11 curriculum to strengthen her foundation for upcoming studies.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student preparing for a statistics test hesitated to share which probability topics felt hardest, making it difficult to target weak spots; her notebook was also missing dates, so tracking progress became confusing.

In Year 9 algebra, as one tutor put it, "he skipped showing steps in simplification, which hid sign errors"—extra time was then spent hunting mistakes instead of building confidence.

A Year 7 student left homework incomplete before lessons and struggled with organizing exercise books and teacher feedback requests.

During Year 12 revision, reluctance to attempt unfamiliar graph questions led to gaps ahead of the upcoming test.

Recent Achievements

One Flemington tutor noticed a big change in a Year 11 student who used to freeze up on tough algebra questions—now, after working through some challenging Further Maths problems, he confidently explained his reasoning and tackled even the trickiest ones without hesitation.

In another session, a Year 9 student who'd struggled to distinguish between explanatory and response variables was able to clearly verbalise his thought process and correctly identify each one during practice.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student who once guessed at answers now talks through her multiplication steps out loud and checks her work before moving on.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Flemington Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kensington Community High School.
