Listen to what the student's struggle is with the subject. Understand how they learn and understanding the best way to utilise their strengths to help them. I have worked as an informal tutor for family and friends for many years, to the point where I am able to come from an educated point and provide real experience to help them. I have also gone…

I think that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to provide that extra academic support and mental support that they can receive from a former student. I believe that this will help with the student's confidence in their academic abilities, as I know that not every single teacher will be able to fully support…

I believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them feel more confident in entering exams and answering questions. One major obstacle students face is not being sure whether they are 'smart enough' for an exam, and I aspire to improve my student's confidence and help them understand how to answer questions :) I…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is ask the student what they want to get out of tutoring. Every student has different goals, and a good tutor recognises that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. By understanding those goals and regularly revisiting them, the tutor can tailor their teaching methods to suit the individual…

Making learning fun. Students should be taught to love learning and not to look at it as a chore. Topics should be made fun and engaging, such as to hold their attention and urge the the students to ask questions. My style of teaching, asking though provoking questions as well as making complex topics easier for students to…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is help rebuild their confidence. Many students begin tutoring when they've reached a stage where they're starting to fall behind everyone else in the class. Often, they've tried to improve, but without external help, they're still struggling. This can ruin a student's confidence and…

A tutor is someone who the student shouldn't be fearful to ask questions or to seek help, but someone they feel can help them to do better in their studies. Also one of the most important things is tutors must be able to communicate clearly to prevent any misunderstandings, so the student knows exactly what is expected of them and doesn't have any…

Listen, encourage, and support. These are the principles I bring to every tutoring session. I've found that students who are struggling academically often face deeper challenges with confidence. Rebuilding that confidence is, in my view, one of the most underrated yet impactful aspects of tutoring. When students begin to believe in themselves…

The most important changes a tutor can cause involve improving the confidence of students and aiding a student's understanding of concepts. By increasing a student's confidence in a subject, a tutor effectively improves students' performance not just in exams but also in the classroom. Additionally, gradual changes in understanding of concepts can…

I think first and foremost is the support. This support comes in giving students help or advice when they ask for it, listening to what they have to say and especially in helping them achieve their goals. But this support also comes in the form of a tutor recognising when something isn't working, or when a student should try to do something on…

Inside GalstonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Daniel focused on converting word problems into algebraic expressions and practiced finding the interior angles of quadrilaterals, using diagrams to structure his solutions.

In Year 8, Lukas worked through Pythagoras' Theorem for right-angled triangles and manipulated algebraic variables to solve for unknowns.

For Year 9, Sophie covered geometry topics including surface area and volume of solids, with an emphasis on using logic to streamline multi-step calculations.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students left a large portion of their maths work unmarked, which limited opportunities for targeted feedback—one tutor observed, "a significant portion of his school work is unmarked."

In Year 10 algebra, skipping the marking step meant persistent sign errors went unnoticed and slowed progress.

A Year 8 student showed reluctance to lay out steps when rearranging equations, making it difficult to pinpoint misunderstandings.

For a senior student revising payoff graphs in maths, revision focused mostly on easier examples rather than tackling complex options.

When exam season arrived, overconfidence led one Year 11 student to overlook question instructions, missing critical marks as a result.

Recent Achievements

One Galston tutor noticed that Tom, a high school student, was able to tackle multi-part algebra questions with much more independence—he interpreted graphs and connected them back to the underlying expressions without prompting, something he hesitated with in earlier sessions.

Will, also in high school, started attempting challenge problems that most of his classmates avoid; even when stuck, he persisted rather than giving up.

In primary years, Riley showed a real shift by listening carefully during fraction work and, by lesson's end, handled mixed negative fractions confidently—a big change from his previous confusion on these topics.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

I was very happy with the staff at your head office. My my initial contact person was Marcus, and he was extremely professional and thorough in explaining the services EZY MATHS provide and he reassured me of the the level of tutoring that the company provides and that they will endeavour to match a tutor for my 15 year olds math's concerns. The thing I liked the most is that at no time did I feel pressured and he made it sound so easy; Which it was. Thank you, and I will be using you guys again when the time arises.

Jade has been absolutely wonderful with Lucas. He's enjoying his tutoring sessions and sounding more confident about  Maths already. We understand it may take quite a while to see any improvement in his actual marks but there has already been a definite improvement in his attitude towards his capabilities. Lucas is very happy with Jade and we will definitely be continuing the tutoring.

We chose EzyMath Tutoring as that is the subject our daughter  most needed help with, and we decided to pick specialists in this subject over other tutors who seemed to do everything.  Our tutor Emma, was a uni student, very professional, friendly, she worked very well with our daughter.  Emma had lots of great tricks and tips for Madison to use in her studying and test-taking, broke some things down so they didn't seem so scary or overwhelming to our daughter.  Madison was much more confident in math class, homework was easier, she was more confident in taking exams.  It meant a lot to Madison and us, a lot less stress at home when it wasn't my husband or I trying to teach her with all the emotions that tend to go along with that.  I would recommend EzyMath tutoring to anyone looking to improve their math skills.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Galston Branch Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Galston Public School.
