Physics Tutor Townsville, QLD
There are various skills and attitudes that a physics tutor should have inorder for the student to enjoy and learn during lesson time. Being able to build rapport was one of the skills that a tutor should have its a way for the student to be comfortable. Moreover, being attentive to the student is a way of making the lesson flow smoothly. For…

Physics Tutor Townsville, QLD
The most important thing you can do for a student is usually to inspire them, as this is the number one key to success and personal growth for them in a subject, in my opinion. Allowing students to appreciate beauty and simplicity links the value of the topics to their work in it. Of course, some students are already very passionate so for them…

Physics Tutor
The most important thing that a physics tutor can do for a student is to engage the student in a way which makes them want to keep learning that specific subject if not fall in love with it. At the end of the day motivation must come from the student themself and as a tutor I believe it is my job to help the student find that motivation. I believe…

Physics Tutor
I believe that a good teacher will prioritise the mindset of their student(s) before attempting to actually teach them anything. To enter the flow state prior to gaining knowledge is, in my view, of utmost importance. A tutor should find a way to ensure that their student is enjoying the learning experience. One example is, rather than explaining…

Inside GarbuttTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Eve worked through trigonometry problems and tackled similarity and congruence questions from her past exam, focusing on correcting errors and approaching both familiar and unfamiliar scenarios.

For Year 10, Isaac concentrated on chemistry by identifying ionic and covalent bonds, answering questions about interactions between compounds, and determining chemical formulas.

In Year 12, Ava refined her biology skills by developing a risk assessment form in preparation for an upcoming IA2 experiment assignment.

Recent Challenges

Several high school students did not complete assigned homework, which impacted their ability to apply new skills—one Year 9 student repeatedly arrived without finished algebra tasks, so feedback could not be checked.

In a Year 11 science session, "he could not locate the most updated version of his assessment," slowing down revision and leaving key issues unaddressed.

Another senior student struggled to explain reasoning in trigonometry; as one tutor noted, "she gave an answer but didn't explain why cos55 > cos65."

During a junior secondary maths lesson, messy working made sign errors harder to spot when solving equations.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Garbutt noticed that Eve, a Year 10 student, used to struggle with identifying her mistakes in maths tests but recently pinpointed exactly where she went wrong after reviewing exercises together—she's now correcting errors on her own.

Meanwhile, Jacinta (Year 11) showed more independence by bringing a revised essay draft for feedback, having already worked through both teacher and tutor comments between sessions.

At the primary level, Sophia has started tackling division problems without waiting for help and now finishes homework tasks independently—something she hesitated with before.

What they say about our tutoring

quote

Matthew has been extremely happy with the tutoring Hannah has provided, and received an A on his most recent Maths test this week.  Hannah is always very punctual and explains things very clearly to Matthew, and in particular has encouraged him to show his working out, which contributed toward him receiving more marks on his recent test than he would have otherwise received. Matthew has already asked if Hannah can continue to tutor him next year!

Rebecca is extremely happy with Diana.  She is truly amazing and the first session was a great success with understanding and common ground.  Very happy.

Jarryd is proving a great find! Meg's already doing better and feeling more confident, so we're very happy. Thanks for finding him for us.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Citylibraries Aitkenvale—or at your child's school (with permission), like Garbutt State School.
