Becoming friends with the actual student that helps them grow as individuals rather than simply teaching content is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student. Simply teaching a kid concepts is not enough, but showing them how to approach obstacles in everyday life is something I find extremely valuable in tutors. I had my own tutoring…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to firstly cover any doubts that they may have in their work, then to work on those doubts. A students doubts are the "walls" that stop them from fully understanding the questions that come at them and as a tutor it is important to both break down these walls that the student may have,…

I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do is build a balance of trust and authority with their student. Students should feel confident that they can come to me with any doubts without fear of being judged. At the same time, I set clear boundaries so that during class time, we stay focused on learning without distractions from…

Tutors must build the confidence of their students - they can't just teach them the content and expect them to be able to do it on their own - its more than that. A good tutor needs to build the childs confidence so they know they can answer a question. I can do this, I am the type of tutor that wants to support students to do their best and to…

As a role model and tutor, the most important thing they can do is ensure a student feels comfortable asking any and all questions about their learning so as to avoid gaps in knowledge and other issues. It is critical the tutor develops an environment that makes the student feel comfortable to ask any and all questions they have as this will allow…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do is not pressure students and understand that everyone learns differently. I believe it is about making them feel supported instead of rushed, so they can…

The first thing is showing them achieving anything is possible no mater how hard the task. Even if at first it seems impossible, by not giving up on them it can teach the student to always try and have faith in their abilities. The second thing is setting them up for success. In my opinion the most important thing a tutor can do is make sure that the student truly understand the various concepts taught. That is because my belief is that by understanding the concept rather than memorising, you are less likely to forget how to do the question in the exam and/or get a mind blank As a tutor, I think my strengths would be…

Inside GlenwoodTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Aryan worked through fraction operations—adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions—and practised connecting percentages to decimals and fractions.

For Year 8, Alisha focused on finding the surface areas and volumes of composite solids using notes and worksheets, along with reviewing formulas for prisms.

In senior secondary, Maya (Year 11) completed HSC exam preparation by tackling varied past paper questions and clarifying major doubts in topics including trigonometry and statistics.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra sessions, a student often left working incomplete when solving equations, which made it hard to spot where misunderstandings with variables arose. As one tutor observed, "she needs to talk aloud so the tutor can know which areas need improvement."

In a senior geometry lesson (Year 11), revision focused mostly on easier past exam questions rather than tackling harder bearings and proof problems—missing a chance to build deeper confidence before assessments.

A Year 7 student avoided writing out steps for fraction addition, leading to repeated denominator errors and confusion about simplifying answers during timed practice.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Glenwood noticed a Year 10 student who previously struggled with scatter plots now drawing them accurately and sharing that he'd received high marks on his topic test.

In a senior session, another student who tended to rely heavily on the tutor's help for algebra was able to tackle multi-step questions solo after a few alternate explanations—solving harder problems without prompting.

Meanwhile, during primary tutoring, one child who rarely asked questions started pausing to clarify things mid-task instead of pushing through confused, showing real initiative. The last session ended with her confidently converting fractions both ways on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Stanhope Garden Library/ Dennis Johnson Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Caddies Creek Public School.
