the most important thing is to be approachable to students. A tutor should not have a barrier which could act as a wall between the tutor and students. he/she should be passionate about learning new things and passing them to their students. My passion and my discipline is my biggest strength. I am calm and approachable around students and I…

I think the impact that a tutor can have on a student should not be understated. A tutor could be the reason a student develops a greater sense of purpose or self-esteem and the one that sets a student straight on the true and good path to success and fulfilment. The one who could help give a student confidence to pursue their field of interest,…

I would first try to understand what’s causing the struggle—whether it’s a gap in knowledge, a lack of confidence, or simply feeling overwhelmed. Then, I’d adjust my approach, maybe by revisiting the basics, using different examples, or setting small, achievable goals. I’d also encourage them by highlighting their progress so they feel…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to understand a student's personality, behaviour and approach to learning. The tutor can alter the learning method to suit the individual student. A tutor needs to understand that all students are different; thus, the approach they use to teach them should also vary. For example, students…

A tutor's responsibility is to make the students ready for the future. A tutor should help the students to be self reliant, independent and self confident. I believe a tutor should adapt to the student's learning style. Beyond that, I also consider building a strong bond with the student, creating a supportive and comfortable environment, setting clear goals, providing constructive feedback, and instilling a sense of confidence and self-efficacy to be equally important. Ultimately, the goal is to…

I feel like the most important thing a tutor can do is to prepare a student for any academic challenges at school. This preparation can be reflected in the results that they end up achieving, but we should still believe that an exam can't be a true reflection of the students' true potential. Being a student myself, I feel like my strength is that…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be interactive and form a relationship with the student. A tutor needs to understand their student so they can be more effective. The most important thing is to make them understand what you are teaching. If they won’t get it right , tutor’s all efforts are worthless. And another important thing is to make the students comfortable with the tutor so that they won’t hesitate to question when they don’t understand. My teaching skills, frequent interaction with students,…

I have this preconceived notion that both mentoring and tutoring have the same purpose, and that is to help a student learn. As someone who is well-read in the sciences, I always rationalize the factors that inhibit a student’s learning process. With that said, I always aim to clear those learning inhibitors if they are within my capacity. Upon…

In my view, the most important things a tutor can do is to build a positive relationship with a student which is the key to become an effective teacher. I've always been hesitant to answer questions in class because I feared being wrong. At home when my parents asked me that same question, I answered without the fear of being wrong. I strongly believe that it's important for the tutor to motivate the student to be confident and answer irrespective of the answer being right or wrong. Students are…

The Most important thing a tutor can do is to share every knowledge he or she has, every concept and tricks he/she learned in their schooling time. Plus, a tutor must share real time experience or the application of the subject that why we are studying this, what's the need of this. With this way, I believe tutor will be able to connect with them…

Inside GranvilleTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Ayaan worked through addition and multiplication basics, then explored simple fractions using number lines.

For Year 10, Zara revised linear graphing by finding x- and y-intercepts from equations, while also practicing algebraic equations with a focus on rearranging terms.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel tackled physics concepts around distance vs. time graphs and applied kinematics formulas to real-world problems.

Recent Challenges

Homework completion was a recurring issue, especially in Year 7 and above—"homework!" appeared repeatedly for students working on algebra, factorising, and trigonometry.

One senior student forgot to bring a quiz home for review, despite reminders to write notes as prompts.

In Year 11 Physics, not having a reference sheet meant key formulas were missed during practice.

A Year 9 student avoided reviewing test mistakes; "will need to look through his test to see where he's made mistakes," the tutor noted. Without this reflection, misconceptions in indices and signs persisted into new material, compounding frustration after each assessment.

Recent Achievements

A Granville tutor noticed a big shift with one Year 9 student who used to avoid seeking help; this week, he spoke up about confusion, leading to fewer mistakes.

Another high schooler, in Year 11 physics, had struggled to recall what topics needed extra revision but now arrived at tutoring sessions ready with a list of questions and even brought home his quiz for review—something he'd never remembered before.

Meanwhile, a younger student who previously relied on finger counting completed all their times tables unaided this session and finished the set in under two minutes.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Granville Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Muslim Girls Grammar School.
