The most important thing a tutor can do is make sure the student clearly understands the theory and understands the applications. This is because, students will be tested on their knowledge with complex unfamiliar questions where a more nuanced approach would be required. My experience in the QCAA syllabus and helping my classmates learn the…

The best thing a tutor can do for a student is it reduce the fear of studying/learning a subject. Mathematics is a tough subject and it is important tutors take the right approach when they teach that subject. I am a huge believer in teachers being friends with their students. My biggest strength is that I get along with students and try and…

I believe giving the student confidence is so important as no matter how well you teach them if they believe they can't do it they won't succeed. I always try to start my students off with more basic questions to give them that bit of confidence before working with them to solve the more complex questions. I'm known for being a happy and…

The most crucial aspect to studying is persistence and not giving up easily. A tutor needs to be able to keep their students motivated and engaged. In doing so, a tutor will unlock their student's potential so they are able to learn anything. My strengths as a tutor are: - Clear communitation - Patience and being motivational to keep my student…

The best thing which a tutor can do is to help students solve the difficulties which they are facing in their studies in such a way that rather than directly giving solutions to them, tutor can help in understanding the problem and concepts behind it. I am very patient and I focus on core subjects so students can solve any kind of problem and I…

A student comes to a tutor because they struggle to understand the knowledge and they cannot communicate their struggles in school, hence they look up to us. So its very important to understand their problems, get simple solutions which makes it easier for them to grasp and then apply them. I believe my strengths are communication, making students…

Personally, I believe that a good tutor is more than just a teacher; they guide students based on their specific needs. They consider various factors, such as a student's learning style, and tailor their instruction to them. They also instil executive study skills in students, which will benefit them both academically and in life. Being a great…

Be patient. That one word is all a tutor needs. Not every student is as bright as the next and are on all different levels of learning. Each new student is a new chapter and story. So being patient and finding different ways of teaching students how to reach their goals. I myself am young like most people who need a tutor, this gives me a…

Friendliness. If the child has fears they are not smart enough, it can lead to further diseouragement. By being a friendly face they will want to see you making the overall process feel more rewarding. To believe in them. Tutors are mentors, and students need the support. To know someone believes in you might just be the push they need to sway their own self doubts, and thus manage their hindrances. Another important thing is to make themselves redundant. A tutor should aim teach a student so well and organised such that without the tutor…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help the student learn in a way that works for them. Tutors can instill confidence in students, which is very important. Students already have so many things to stress about, by giving them some confidence and reassurance in their school work you can help them feel better. Tutors should provide a safe space where students feel comfortable in sharing their concerns. As a tutor you should prioritize…

Inside GriffinTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Poppy worked on understanding scale factors and calculating the volume of cylinders and rectangular prisms, using class examples for practice.

For Year 10, Dirk focused on graphing linear functions from equations and revising index laws with flashcards to reinforce key concepts.

In Year 12, Ella tackled integration techniques including finding the area under a curve, building up her skills with worked examples from recent assignments.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, one student struggled to complete homework consistently, leading to repeated gaps in remembering how to solve quadratic equations—"he often forgets how to do the questions in a later session."

For a Year 11 assignment, another was unsure about requirements but did not seek clarification from the teacher, which meant key parts were left incomplete.

Meanwhile, a Year 7 student sometimes rushed through linear equations and missed sign changes; messy or incomplete working made it hard for her to check answers later.

In primary years, skipping written steps slowed down progress with times tables and worded maths problems.

Recent Achievements

One Griffin tutor recently noticed Dirk, a Year 11 student, making a real shift—after struggling with quadratic equations, he began solving problems with little assistance and even completed most questions on his own by the end of the session.

In another case, Ella (Year 10) started flagging whenever she was unsure about linear functions, instead of staying silent; now she insists on understanding each question fully before moving forward and tackles mini quizzes independently.

Meanwhile, Callum in primary school moved from hesitating over his 6 times tables to recalling them confidently and jumping into division questions without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as North Lakes Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Griffin State School.
